Dear Commissioners:
This letter is in response to Use By Special Review Permit#1306, revised application by Platte
Sand and Gravel, LLC. We are residents of the community which will be adversely impacted by
the proposed operation and we are opposed to approval of the application.
The size and scale of the proposed facility is a sizeable industrial activity which encompasses the
mining operation as well as an asphalt batch plant, concrete batch plant, asphalt and concrete
recycling plant, and pre-cast concrete plant. This type of operation is not compatible with the
existing community nor the future community. One can see by observation that the residential
growth path of the City of Platteville is north and northwest.
The activity of this facility represents a huge increase in the traffic to the surrounding roads and
highways of the community. During the past several years we have observed a significant
increase of traffic in our immediate community so that safety is already an issue. Even with
upgraded roads the proposed operation is not compatible with the existing community.
In addition, the truck traffic routes of the proposed operation is in conflict with existing school
bus routes for the RE-1 School District. This problem will only get worse with the continued
growth of the immediate Platteville community.
We recognize that Platte Sand and Gravel, LLC has made a very recent investment in their
project, please consider the number of citizens that have made a life-time investment in their
properties and community, which will be negatively affected by this project. The above
expresses only a couple of our major concerns relating to the revised application and request that
you give careful consideration to our concerns.
