RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF "STOP" AND "STOP AHEAD" SIGNS AT
INTERSECTION OF WELD COUNTY ROAD 4 AND WELD COUNTY ROAD 19
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Engineering has in-
formed the Board of County Commissioners that due to unusually
high truck traffic at the intersection of Weld County Road 4
and Weld County Road 19 they recommend that "stop" and "stop
ahead" traffic devices should be installed to insure safety to
the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, upon the recommendation of the Weld County Department
of Engineering, has determined that said traffic devices are
necessary for the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado that the Department of Engi-
neering is directed to install "stop" and "stop ahead" signs
at the interesection of Weld County Road 4 and Weld County Road
19 for the safety of the general public, and that said signs
must conform to the State manual and specifications.
The above and foregoing Resolution was , on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 11th day of
October, A.D. , 1982.

Traffic Control Devices at Intersection of W.C.R. 4 and W.C.R. 19
Due to unusually high truck traffic caused by a gas company's supply yard being
located at this intersection, it is my recommendation that 30" x 30" "Stop" signs
with 30" x 30" "Stop Ahead" signs preceding those signs be installed to control
traffic on-Weld County Road 4. This will allow unobstructed flow of traffic
on Weld County Road 19.

This is in response to your letter requesting additional traffic signs at various
locations in Weld County. The locations you indicated were physically inspected
and new traffic counts were made at locations where records were not available.
We concur with your request in two locations. "Stop" and "Stop Ahead" signs will
be placed on Weld County Road 4 and Weld County Road 19 that would stop traffic
' on Road 4 and allow Road 19 to be a through road. Also, advance crossroad warning
signs will be placed at the intersection of Weld County Roads 18 and 21. However,
traffic volumes do not warrant the placement of "Stop" signs at Roads 18 and 21.
We feel the other locations you indicated have appropriate signing or do not
warrant additional signs when considering the traffic volumes.
I am sure you recognize that it is common not to have stop signs at intersections
in both rural and urban areas. Colorado Revised Statutes 42-4-601 deals with
vehicles approaching or entering an intersection. When two vehicles approach an
intersection, the driver on the left is to yield right-of-way to the driver on
the right. This is the general rule that applies to an uncontrolled intersection.
You nay want to remind your people working in these rural areas that they are
very likely to come across uncontrolled intersections.
