Subject: Federal aid for Weld County roads
Dear Commissioners:
There were articles in the two Denver newspapers on
8/16/01 relating to the disparity in the ratio of
Federal aid provided for urban interstate highways vs.
"roads owned by local governments" compared to the
proportion of fatalities on these classifications of
roads. There were over 4 times more fatalities/hundred
million miles on the latter than on the former! We
also are aware that the number of fatalities on Weld
County roads exceeds that of other counties in the
state. In the interest of the safety of Weld
residents, it might be worthwhile to investigate, as
one course of action, what steps CCI is making to
rectify this disproportionality of allocation of
Federal funding. Please let me know if you want any
