In addition to their popularity and excellence in providing spiritual leadership to many in the Longmont area, the Church and its members have demonstrated many times over their good citizenship and commitment to the community. In particular, LifeBridge has assisted the Longmont City Government as a community co-sponsor of the Our Town Community Conference, providing their facilities as a location for the secular event. Members of their staff have served on various committees to address issues facing any community, such as substance abuse and quality of life. The church and its staff and members have been very supportive and interactive with a number of community policing projects, enhancing the success with which they are received. I fully support the positive growth of such an organization, and hope you will consider with favor their development requests in Weld County. Sincerely, H. Six years ago many area coaches including myself, were concerned that there were no summer leagues in this area for ninth grade basketball teams. The closest leagues for ninth graders in the summer were in Denver. As a coach I was extremely concerned about this because I did not want ninth graders driving into Denver for games. I decided to approach the Administration at LifeBridge Church to see if they would be interested in starting a summer league for ninth graders. The Athletic Supervisor at LifeBridge loved the idea and we were able to begin the summer league for our younger players. We hove continued to run this league since that first summer. Every High School in Longmont, along with teams from Boulder, Broomfield, Berthoud,Lyons, Frederick, and Loveland have sent teams to our summer league.. When no other program would step up and take on this challenge,LifeBridge stepped forward and made the league happen, Many young people have been involved in this summer league and have had great experiences. Asa coach,my worry about having my young players on the highway has been eliminated. Players from my school and the players from the other area high schools are getting game experience and their families come to watch them on a regular basis. Each year for the past eight years I have conducted a youth Basketball camp at the LifeBridge Church gymnasium. The camp is open for both boys and girls who are in the third grade through ninth grade. Each year we have averaged between 100-125 participants for the week that we conduct the camp. The people.of LifeBridge have supplied us.with terrific facilities, one being the adjustable baskets for the young players to shoot at. This has allowed many Longmont youth and youth from smaller outlying areas who could not afford a University camp an opportunity to have fun and learn how to play the game of basketball. Each year the camp continues to get high marks from community members. We look forward to continue to have the opportunity to hold basketball camps at LifeBridge Church. We intend to continue to service all the youth of Longmont and give them a positive experience which the youth will remember. Again, it is because of LifeBridge's commitment to the people of Longmont that allows this to happen. Sincerely, Jeff. We conducted a boys and a girls basketball character camp in the LBCC gymnasium. During the course of the camps we also used the activity center, the kitchen and about one half of the fellowship area for our awards banquet night. The partnership we have with LifeBridge is over four years old. We have had other camps there as well with outstanding results and free flowing collaboration. The result has been that approximately 100 at-risk and other youth in our community have been served a larger-than- life dose of fun, basketball fundamentals, challenging messages of hope, decision-making principles and character development. We are pleased to be one of the many area groups that have been warmly welcomed to utilize the facilities and staff of one of the bright lights in our community. Small non- profit ministries like ASSIST would struggle to make an impact in Boulder county and beyond without an assist from churches like LifeBridge. The Time to Serve Event is indicative of each and every ministry at LifeBridge. We have over 30 ministry teams who provide countless hours of community service and supplies. Here is a very brief listing of a few examples of the ongoing element of community service; a. Our children's ministry provided a room full of personal heath supplies for the Inn Between during a children's summer program, and so involved our children in community service. b. Our middle school students continue to serve the senior residents at Grandview Trailer Park. c. Our High School students provided service at the Our Center d. LifeBridge seeks to help them be a success with their goals and endeavors by providing leadership, volunteers, supplies, and donations. • LifeBridge partnering with The Volunteer Connection to promote weekly opportunities of service. LifeBridge is cooperating with The Volunteer Connection to provide volunteers to community organizations. The Volunteer Connection provides LifeBridge a weekly list of volunteer opportunities, which we publish in our weekly worship program called The Connect. Individuals contact The Volunteer Connection directly to volunteer. Among the nearly 3000 members and attendees are significant Community Servants and Leaders. It is important to note that the members and attendees of LifeBridge are community minded servants and leaders. They are part of many benevolent, business, service, school, and public organizations. To Whom It May Concern, I am a close neighbor to the current location of Lifebridge Christian Church. I am a member of the church, and I am also an elected official in Boulder County, (Sheriff). I am writing in an expression of support for Lifebridge and their current relocation plans. I am aware of many of the concerns about the church's proposed location, and I am also aware that they have been working hard to mediate or eliminate those concerns. My wife and I would like to express what a wonderful neighbor this church has been, literally and figuratively. We were not originally members, but were drawn there a few years ago by all of the wonderful youth programs that they offer. Our kids grew up playing organized sports on their teams, practicing basketball on their courts, and attending youth groups and programs in their halls. The Lifebridge family has provided countless opportunities to our kids, and their friends, regardless of beliefs or religious affiliation. Lifebridge is a wonderful neighbor to youth in the community. The church works hard to provide community service, reaching out in hundreds of ways to show God's love by working in the community, (not within their own walls). This includes service to the elderly, sick, and poor. They provide wonderful holiday programs and facilities for a wide variety of events in the community. I am convinced that any neighborhood would benefit from the presence of such a great community oriented church. My husband, Mike, and I moved there as the 11th homebuyer when Ryland was just beginning its development . The country feel was part of the area' s attraction for us . We attended one of LifeBridge' s open houses last week, and I want to r commend them for holding the open houses and seeking public comment on their proposal . Mike and I were pleased to see LifeBridge had already made several changes to their proposal to address neighbors' concerns . If you approve the development, we urge you to do so under these conditions : 1 . LifeBridge traffic should not connect to Pearl Howlett Drive . A home site was originally platted to be at the west end of the Pearl Howlett subdivision. We believe a home site is appropriate and that a traffic connection is not . We are pleased that LifeBridge has dropped this connection from their proposal . As you know, I am interested in trail connections for the Elms neighborhood, so we would approve of a trail connection at the west end of Pearl Howlett, but nothing more . 2 . LifeBridge lighting should be designed to minimize the impact on homes . We moved from northwest Longmont to this area to get away from bright stadium lighting on a nearby ball field. We thoroughly enjoy stargazing at night and would like to continue to have that opportunity. We realize that LifeBridge' s development will add some light to the nighttime, and we are pleased that the church' s current lighting plans seem to address this issue . 3 . We approve of the increased setbacks around the edges of the property. LifeBridge has backed development away from the edges of the property, and we appreciate that . We believe this increases the aesthetic appeal of their plans and may help protect the viewsheds from our neighborhood. EXHIBIT - 4 : We approve of the decreased size of the amphitheater. Community events at LifeBridge could make for wonderful outreach in this area . Decreasing the seating capacity of the amphitheater increases the chance r- that neighbors may react positively to LifeBridge' s outreach efforts, because they will not be adversely impacted by the events . Please be sure that the current and future development proposals for this or future phases of the LifeBridge property contain the foregoing elements, which are important to us as neighbors . Since development will ultimately happen on this property, we prefer the church' s plans for developing the site to other possibilities we can imagine . Even so, we appreciate your efforts and those of your fellow commissioners and staff to ensure this development minimizes the impact to its neighbors . Thank you. Respectfully, Janis Whisman Mike Whisman P . S . If you could have your traffic staff repaint the lines on County Roads 5 . 5 and 24 to add bicycle lanes or more width to the driving lanes, except where left turn lanes are needed, we would greatly appreciate it . We believe it would increase safety for bicyclists . In addition, I was the director of the Longmont Children's Chorale for 9 years. During that time I had my public school students and children's chorale members performing many concerts for the Longmont community. Finding suitable performance venues was often challenging. When LifeBridge Christian Church opened their facility I approached them about using their building for local performances. They were very receptive and helpful in meeting our needs. I booked each school performance on their site, and The Longmont Chorale organization also booked their entire performance seasons at LifeBridge for several years. On April 11 , 2003, in an attempt to service the St. Vrain Valley School district while in their current financial difficulties, the administrators at LifeBridge have volunteered use of their facility for a public school vocal festival and concert. Two area high schools will be involved as well as a visiting high school from Idaho. They are donating the use of the facility at no charge to the schools. I have been impressed by the leadership at LifeBridge Christian Church for many years. There seems to be genuine desire to extend a hand of friendship to the Longmont community. I am confident that this will continue as they move into their new facility in Weld County. I am excited about the opportunity this presents to Boulder County and Weld County. The proposed campus-style community center that will includes cultural, educational and recreational facilities will be an enrichment to what the neighborhood currently lacks. The proposal for a community center fills a void by the area surrounding the church property, creating a benefit to us and our children. The daycare/pre-school programs at Lifebridge has provided allot of families a topnotch educational, fun and safe learning environment for their children. Many times over the last 6 years they have allowed us to use the facilities to hold our meetings or special events and at no charge! Being a non profit organization this has been a tremendous help to us, as many other places in our community were charging quite a bit more than our troop budget would allow. I thank Life Bridge for helping me to touch the lives of many young girls and to help them to learn the skills to become positive members of our community. Life Bridge certainly exemplifies the Girl Scout Slogan " Do A Good Turn Daily". My son played on a baseball travel team out of Longmont. During the cold winter months we were looking for someplace warm to hold our practices. To our surprise no one was willing to let us hold baseball practices in their facilities. When I approached J.R. about the possibility of us using the gym he had no hesitation. Needless to say we were able to begin practices and because we didn't have to wait for the warm weather we were able to get the boys a jump-start on the season. With the extra practice time our team did very well throughout the season and as a result we made it to the state playoffs! Since 1993, Lifebridge church has supported the FRIENDS FIRST organization and our mission through networking, and direct services to youth and families. In our formative years as an organization, Lifebridge's staff provided much needed technical assistance relating to the development of our corporation and our mission. The Lifebridge staff frequently serves on committees involving adolescent health and welfare needs, and our strategic planning. Communities truly benefit from the number of direct services provided by Lifebridge Christian Church. The church is tirelessly reaching out re- to support a broad range of community efforts. Over the last 10 years, Lifebridge has actively assisted with events such as abstinence awareness week. They have literally hosted thousands of youth and their parents in their facilities to encourage and promote the best and healthiest choice for adolescents and their parents, abstinence until marriage. Several times per year, Lifebridge has collaboratively assisted TANF clients through our partnership. TANF clients have received funding to assist them with utilities, automobiles and transportation, as well as counseling services and support. The church has also provided full Christmas celebrations for welfare mothers that could not afford to celebrate Christmas with their children. Lifebridge Christian Church is truly an asset to any community. I strongly encourage you to approve their application for relocation in Weld County. This move will only expand the benefits to individuals, families, and the most needy of the community at large. Feel free to call me if you have questions or concerns. Sincerely,/J. L Lisa A. The activity room worked great. It is nice to find a room that accommodates twelve players and their families for our team meetings. The use of the gym greatly enhances our ability to play against teams that also get an early start. This allows us, in this cold weather climate,to have a place to practice. Mastellar Lifebridge Christian Church MAR 1 0 2003 10345 Ute Highway Longmont, CO 80501 ' ` ` '7 r Dear J.R., On behalf of the Longmont Knights of Columbus, Council #1313, I'd like to express our appreciation to you and the staff at Lifebridge for having extended the invitation for us to participate in your men's church basketball league. As you know, three years ago, we instituted a recreational men's basketball league at our own school gymnasium at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a program that met with a very enthusiastic response. It was a great opportunity to meet fellow parishioners, enjoy some camaraderie, and to work off a few excess pounds (!). However, the renovation and expansion of our parish campus required the gutting of our antiquated gym and converting it into classrooms. Our new facility is at least two years from completion; our basketball league was kaput. What to do? Lifebridge to the rescue! You very graciously offered our ball players the opportunity to use your beautiful facility and to play in the Lifebridge men's league. Our Council took advantage of the opportunity and has sponsored a team for the past two seasons. It has been a great experience. The league offers like-minded men the opportunity to get together in friendly competition, enjoy a good game, and to make new friends. Keeping the focus on our greater obligations to God and family, and reinforcing that message each week, is the better part of the program, however. You are to be commended for the quality program that you run, the Christian example that you set, and the ecumenism demonstrated in inviting a bunch of displaced (aging) Catholic basketball players to join your league. I suspect that it is but a small aspect of your larger mission to the Longmont community, but I wanted to extend our thanks and appreciation to you. Keep up the good work!
