RE: APPROVE 2003 APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY FOOD AND NUTRITION
PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS,the Board has been presented with the 2003 Application for the Community
Food and Nutrition Program from the County of Weld,State of Colorado,by and through the Board
of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Social Services,to the
Colorado Department of Local Affairs, commencing upon full execution of said application, and
ending June 30, 2004, with further terms and conditions being as stated in said application, and
WHEREAS,after review,the Board deems it advisable to approve said application,a copy
of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County,Colorado,ex-officio Board of Social Services,that the 2003 Application for the Community
Food and Nutrition Program from the County of Weld,State of Colorado,by and through the Board
of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Social Services,to the
Colorado Department of Local Affairs be, and hereby is, approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair be,and hereby is,authorized to
sign said application.
The above and foregoing Resolution was,on motion duly made and seconded,adopted by
the following vote on the 14th day of July, A.D., 2003.

XX a: To coordinate existing private and public food assistance resources, whenever such coordination is
determined to be inadequate, to better serve low-income communities;
_ b: To assist low-income communities to identify potential sponsors of child nutrition programs and initiate
new programs in underserved and unserved areas; and
c: To develop innovative approaches at State and local levels to meet the nutrition needs of low-income
people.
Applicant Program Description:
The current ecaxny is negatively affecting those who don't have a solid resource base and in addition have other limiting factors
such as disabilities, seniors en a fixed Thuile a- children. Currently we have over 160 seniors and disabled on a waiting list for
food. These are vulnerable citizens who have no where else to turn. Snergency Food Boxes are being distributed at the highest level
in the 20 year history of the Weld Food Bank. CFN finding would be used to provide the tmst vulnerable in our camtnity with food assitance.

RE: Community Food&Nutrition Program 2003 pplication
Enclosed for Board approval is a Community Food&Nutrition Program 2003 Application. The
Application was discussed and reviewed at the Board's Work Session of July 7, 2003.
The application is a requirement of the Colorado Department of Local Affairs in order for Weld
County to receive Community Food&Nutrition (CFN) funds. The Weld County Department of
Social Services is submitting the application on behalf of the Weld Food Bank. The Weld Food
Bank would use CFN funds to purchase Emergency Food Boxes. The grant year is from July
1,2003 through June 30,2004.
If awarded funds,the Colorado Department of Local Affairs will require an Agreement with
Weld County.
