HomeMy WebLinkAbout20030394 RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE GRANT REQUEST FOR EPIDEMIOLOGY AND LABORATORY CAPACITY WEST NILE VIRUS SURVEILLANCE PROJECT AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board has been presented with a Grant Request for the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity West Nile Virus Surveillance Project from the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Public Health and Environment, to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, commencing July 1, 2003, and ending June 30, 2004, with further terms and conditions being as stated in said request, and WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to approve said request, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Grant Request for the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity West Nile Virus Surveillance Project from the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Public Health and Environment, to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment be, and hereby is, approved. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair be, and hereby is, authorized to sign said request. WALLACE, MD, MPH CSUB E6/2003 ECT:W E VIRUS GRANT REQUEST DAT _CCIt COLORADO Enclosed for Board review and approval is the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment's request for West Nile Virus support through the CDPHE. This is Weld County's portion of a statewide grant request that will be made by CDPHE through the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) West Nile Virus Surveillance Project. This project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and was designed to improve laboratory infrastructure and epidemiological surveillance capacity nation wide. Over the last three years, the Department has requested funding through this grant to support the ongoing encephalitis surveillance including laboratory testing and field surveillance. The request is for a total of$39,641.93. Of this amount, $16,646.35 is for Personnel, $15,735.00 for supplies, $2,700 for Pathologist support, and $4,560.58 for indirect costs. The term of this request is from July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. I recommend your approval of this grant request. Testing chicken flocks every other week, for IgM antibodies to West Nile Virus, St. Louis Encephalitis, & Western Equine Encephalitis. 2. Testing of a limited number of mosquito pools or WN and SLE, using VecTest kits supplied by Colorado Department of Public Health& Environment. 3. Testing of human specimens for IgM antibodies to West Nile Virus.
