Women organizations and the thousands of Coloradans we represent, we are writing to
urge you to take action to insure that the portion of Colorado's $19.8 million
Colorado Progressive TANF out-of-wedlock-birth bonus received by Weld County is used to fill
Coalition funding gaps in childcare assistance for families participating in the Colorado
Works welfare program and other low-income Colorado families.
Colorado Women's Agenda
The Invest in Families Network is a coalition of Colorado organizations
Denver UM(Denver Urban dedicated to strengthening low-income Colorado families by investing in
Ministries) education,training and childcare. A statement of our principles is attached.
Denver Women's As you know, counties across Colorado are facing a crisis in funding childcare
Commission for children in families participating in the Colorado Works welfare program
and in other low-income families. The need for childcare has gone up while
League of Women Voters available funds have decreased. Counties have had to take steps that mean less
of Colorado childcare assistance for low-income Colorado families.

with two young children, childcare costs can amount to almost $800 per month

their responsibilities at home and in their workplaces. Failure to adequately
fund childcare support will force families to return to the welfare system, thus
