Subjects: Cats
While talking to the Animal Control Officer for Weld County. It was brought to my
attention that there are no law holding people who have cats responsible for their
Actions (the cats).
We've had problems with multiple cats( 10 or more) on our property. They use loose
dirt or my hay for a litter box, and they kill the native birds in our area. We no longer
have any Cottontails around our property and I cannot turn my dog loose in the backyard
without first checking for cats or droppings.
I'm told all I can do is pay to rent a trap, trap the cats, and take them to the Humane
Society.
I think there should be some regulation, like there is for other animals.
According to programs I've seen on TV and from talking to other people. Cats running
loose can kill a lot of wildlife, and do a lot of other damage.
Please keep these things in mind the next time you are looking into animal issues.
Thank you

, RE: Letter from Victor Pfannenstiel Requesting Regulation of
COLORADO Cats Running-at-Large
The Board of County Commissioners has received a letter from Victor Pfannenstiel requesting
the regulation of cats running-at-large. Weld County's current regulation of animals is the
prohibition of such activity by dogs only. C.R.S. § 30-15-401(1)(e) authorizes counties to adopt
regulations controlling "animals," which term includes cats.
If the Board is interested in regulating cats running-at-large, it can be done. If not, no change is
necessary to our current regulations. Either way I sriquld probably respond to Mr. Pfannenstiel's
letter, but I will need direction.

RE: Request for Weld County to Regulate Cats
Running-at-Large
Dear Mr. Pfannenstiel:
This letter is in response to your letter of February 25, 2003, asking the Board of County
Commissioners of Weld County to consider amending the Weld County Code to include
regulations prohibiting cats from running-at-large.
I have asked the Board if it desires to instruct me to write such regulations and submit them for
enactment into the Code. The Board does not wish to do so at this time.
Please feel free to call me at (970) 356-4000, extension 4390, if you hav y questions
regarding this letter.
