Dear Mr. Carlson:
I am pleased to inform you that Weld County has been selected as
a demonstration site for HUD's Project Self-Sufficiency. We have
awarded 50 Section 8 Existing Housing certificates to your locality
for the demonstration.
Your contribution and enthusiastic support of Weld County's
application for Project Self-Sufficiency indicates that you share
with me a strong desire to expand opportunities for single-parent
families who are locked in a cycle of poverty. Most importantly, you
have made a commitment to organize a local task force of public and
private citizens who will design the program and coordinate the local
resources necessary to provide child care, counseling, job training,
and placement assistance for (50) single parents.
Your continued leadership will be essential in making Project
Self-Sufficiency a successful demonstration from which all communities
can learn. Your community will have a great deal of flexibility in
designing its program, and we look forward to working with you in
finding ways to help single parents become independent. The Department
will make available technical assistance to your community as needed.
I will be sending a member of my top staff to meet with you and your
community's task force during the next few weeks.
Please accept my congratulations to your community. Together
I am sure we can make the dream of self-sufficiency and independence
for low-income single parents a reality.
