Dear Commissioners:
After conducting an extensive review of alternative funding options, Centennial
Developmental Services, Inc. (CDSI) has made the decision to close our Before and After
School/Summer Camp Program at the conclusion of the current school year in May 2003.
The Before and After School/Summer Camp Program, designed as a fee-supported
program, has been operating at a deficit for many years. Continually declining
enrollments have increased that deficit each year.
After our Board of Directors reached this decision on Friday, February 7, 2003, we met
with program staff and began informing parents. As we have indicated to parents, we are
committed to keeping the program open through the end of the current school year in
May 2003. We have offered to meet individually with the families who have children
with developmental disabilities to explore options and to develop specific alternative
plans that would assist them in meeting their children's needs. At the same time we are
researching other options for alternative care providers, and will provide that information
to all of the parents who have children enrolled in the Before and After School/Summer
Camp Program as it is developed.
We have explored every known option to keep our Before and After School/Summer
Camp Program open and are truly saddened to see it end.
