HomeMy WebLinkAbout20032826.tiff RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE APPLICATION FOR PREVENTATIVE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES BLOCK GRANT AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN LETTER OF SUPPORT WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board has been presented with a Application for Preventative Health and Human Services Block Grant between the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, commencing October 15, 2003, and ending October 14, 2004, and WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to approve said application, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Application for Preventative Health and Human Services Block Grant between the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment be, and hereby is, approved. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair be, and hereby is, authorized to sign said letter of support. The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 8th day of October, A.D., 2003. The amount of the request is $19,422.00 for the 2003 - 2004 funding cycle. The Health Department has effectively used these funds in previous years for a wide range of programs in our community. The Health Department will use the funds to increase the number of children entering Weld County schools with completed immunization certificates to prevent the spread of vaccine preventable disease in Weld County. Many immigrant families new to Weld County and Colorado are unaware of the immunization requirements and the resources available to them for immunizations. The Latino Health Coalition, Weld County Immunization Coalition and the Health Department will work together to identify needs,barriers and resources for immunizations and to educate Latinos about required immunizations and available resources. The Health Department has always been a leader in implementation of new and innovative strategies to protect the health of the residents of Weld County. The Board of County Commissioners supports the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment in its goal to improve childhood immunization rates in Weld County. The total amount of the request for Weld County is $19,422.00. The funding period is October 15, 2003 to October 14, 2004. The grant is part of a joint application with the 14 organized health departments to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment will use this funding for a .25 Health Education Specialist to develop a plan with the Latino Health Coalition and Weld County Immunization Coalition to improve childhood immunization rates in Weld County's Latino population.
