When this vehicle returns to service, Unit#09 will be retired as scheduled in the 2003 Budget. Medical Operations Supervisor Lyle Achziger has discussed the disposition of Unit#09 with Claude Hanes. There continues to be limited interest from potential buyers when we retire ambulances from service. Historically before sending it to county auction we have made the local fire districts aware of there availability for purchase. We recently received a bid (see attached file) from Galeton Fire Department in the amount of $8,500.00. In keeping with the Board of County Commissioner's previous direction of supporting county agencies, it is our recommendation that we accept the bid from Galeton Fire Department. Galeton Fire Department intends to use the ambulance in their operations as a rescue vehicle to care for and shelter their patients from the elements prior to the arrival of Weld County Paramedics. Galeton Fire Department will keep the ambulance in full operating condition in the event that Weld County Paramedic Services may need to borrow the ambulance during emergency operations. This transaction meets the direction the BOCC has taken in the past and appears to benefit all parties involved. We would ask for your support along with the BOCC in the sale of Unit#09 to Galeton Fire Department. BOX 697 GALETON, COLORADO 8O622 May I,2003 Weld County Colorado Weld County Paramedic Services C/O Lyle Achziger 1121 M Street Greeley,CO 80631 Dear Lyle, As per our phone conversation,we arc writing this letter in regards to your Ambulance#9,that you have indicated you will surplus sometime next month. The Galeton Fire department consists of 15 members, and is operated completely on a volunteer basis. We are proud of our community, and our department. Over the last few years, like a lot of Weld County Fire departments we have seen substantial growth in our district. It is our desire to keep up with the growth, and provide the best service possible to our community. The district operates on a rather small budget which makes it hard to keep up with the changing times. We recently were very fortunate, and received a private donation which has allowed us to purchase another much needed grass fire truck, and we have agreed to put the remaining balance of the donation, plus funds that we have generated through fund raisers towards the purchase of an ambulance which will replace our current rescue vehicle,a 1971 GMC van. We feel that the addition of an ambulance will be beneficial to our department, our community, and Weld County. An Ambulance such as yours will allow us to perform better patient care prior to your arrival, will allow us to treat multiple patients if necessary, and will also double as a rehab unit for our own staff. We will be able to carry more equipment, and have a safer vehicle for our volunteers to operate. There are a lot of Ambulances for sale, however we area little"Gun Shy" when it comes to buying from just anybody. We know that Weld County Paramedic Service works hard to have and maintain the best equipment available. This is why.we would like to purchase from your agency, not only are you local, but we are all part of the same team. As the county continues to grow,so must we,and it is important to us to maintain a good working relationship with other local agencies. If we are successful in purchasing this vehicle,we are willing to keep it available to the county as a backup whenever it is needed. The Galeton Fire Protection District would like to submit a bid of$8,500.00 for Ambulance#9. We ask that you please give us your full consideration. Thank You!
