Dear Weld County Commissioners:
It was with sadness that the Weld County Library Board of Trustees,
at our last board meeting, acknowledged Elizabeth Bowers' letter
announcing her retirement January 1, 1984. Having been the Weld County
Librarian for over twenty-five years and done such an outstanding job,
it is hard to imagine Weld County Library without her.
However, we are writing to you to encourage your promotion of
Luella Kinnison, presently the Associate Director, to the position of
Library Director of the Weld County Library. As you know, Mrs. Kinnison
is a highly qualified professional librarian, whose strengths include
budgetary expertise, staff relationships and counseling, a thorough
knowledge of the working of the Weld County Library and other area
libraries and good sound administrative ability.
During the past two weeks, the Library Board conducted an informal survey
among the present library staff as to whether or not Mrs. Kinnison would
be acceptable to them as their library director. In every instance her
promotion was greeted with enthusiasm, with promises of great support during
any transition period which might occur between the leadership of Mrs. Bowers
and Mrs. Kinnison and a heartfelt desire to have Mrs. Kinnison as their
director rather than an "outside" appointee.
We urge your speedy appointment of Luella Kinnison as Library Director in
order that the transition run smoothly and that the change of directorships
can be reflected in the upcoming county budgetary process.
