WELD COUNTY, COLORADO

The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, met in regular session as the Board of
Social Services in full conformity with the laws of the State of Colorado at the regular place of meeting in
the Weld County Centennial Center, Greeley, Colorado, January 7, 2004, at the hour of 9:00 a.m.
ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by the Chair and on roll call the following members were
present, constituting a quorum of the members thereof:
Commissioner Robert D. Masden, Chair
Commissioner William H. Jerke, Pro-Tern
Commissioner M. J. Geile
Commissioner David E. Long
Commissioner Glenn Vaad
Also present:
County Attorney, Bruce T. Barker
Acting Clerk to the Board, Carol A. Harding
Controller/Treasurer, Claud Hanes
MINUTES: Commissioner Geile moved to approve the minutes of the Board of Social Services meeting
of January 5, 2004, as printed. Commissioner Long seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously.
WARRANTS: Claud Hanes,Controller/Treasurer,stated there are no warrants for approval by the Board.
NEW BUSINESS:
CONSIDER AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE CHILD PLACEMENT AGENCY SERVICES AND AUTHORIZE
CHAIR TO SIGN-PATH: Judy Griego, Director of Social Services,stated underthis agreement the vendor
will be reimbursed at a rate based on the Needs Based Care Assessment levels that include room, board,
and treatment services. She stated the term is of the agreement is December 9, 2003, through June 30,
2004. CommissionerJerke moved to approve said agreement and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded
by Commissioner Geile, the motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDER CHILD PROTECTION AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN-
CHILD ADVOCACY RESOURCE AND EDUCATION, INC.: Ms. Griego stated the term of the agreement
is January 1,2004,through December 31,2004. She stated the vendor agrees to provide services through
parent education, community education, children's, and prevention programs. Responding to
Commissioner Geile, Ms. Griego stated approximately 480 hours are provided in parent instruction,7,000
are served in community education programs, and 11,000 children are served in prevention programs.

Commissioner Long moved to approve said agreement and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded by
Commissioner Vaad, the motion carried unanimously.
Responding to Commissioner Vaad regarding the number of calls handled by staff, Ms. Griego stated the
total calls on January 5,2004, reached 12,000 calls. She stated there was somewhat of a spike because
of the holiday season; however, there is a very large volume of calls, reaching approximately 10,000 per
day. Ms. Griego also stated that is only for the Greeley office. Commissioner Vaad stated it is a tribute to
the professionalism of Ms. Griego and her staff that there are not many more calls to the Board, and
he expressed his appreciation for her efforts.
Let the minutes reflect that the above and foregoing actions were attested to and respectfully submitted by
the Acting Clerk to the Board.
There being no further business, this meeting was adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
