HomeMy WebLinkAbout20040477 RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS MINUTES BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES WELD COUNTY, COLORADO FEBRUARY 9, 2004 TAPE #2004-07 The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, met in regular session as the Board of Social Services in full conformity with the laws of the State of Colorado at the regular place of meeting in the Weld County Centennial Center, Greeley, Colorado, February 9, 2004, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by the Chair and on roll call the following members were present, constituting a quorum of the members thereof: Commissioner Robert D. Masden, Chair Commissioner William H. Jerke, Pro-Tem Commissioner M. J. Geile - EXCUSED Commissioner David E. Long Commissioner Glenn Vaad - EXCUSED Also present: County Attorney, Bruce T. Barker Acting Clerk to the Board, Esther E. Gesick Director of Finance and Administration, Don Warden MINUTES: Commissioner Long moved to approve the minutes of the Board of Social Services meeting of February 4, 2004, as printed. Commissioner Jerke seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously. WARRANTS: Don Warden, Director of Finance and Administration, presented the warrants for approval by the Board in the amount of $1,843.63. Commissioner Jerke moved to approve the warrants as presented by Mr. Warden. Commissioner Long seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS: CONSIDER 2005 QUALITY CHILD CARE EXPANSION GRANT APPLICATION AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN: Judy Griego,Director of Social Services,stated this grant application will allow the pass through of funds,in the amount of$79,416,to United Way of Weld County and Aims Community College. The term of the grant is July 1,2004,through June 30,2005. She stated this is a competitive grant submittal which requires a local match which will be paid by United Way and Aims. Ms.Griego stated the funds will be used to provide new child,parent,and teacher training programs called The Incredible Years and ECE-CARES which address the social and emotional needs of children in child care. She stated the funding will provide continuing professional development opportunities through Aims for licensed home and child care centers and mentor/mentee programs for existing licensed child care home providers. Chair Long stated he recently attended a briefing regarding the programs, and he was impressed with how they provide the parents and child care providers with training on how to deal with difficult child behavior and it encourages cooperative efforts. Commissioner Long moved to approve said application and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded by Commissioner Jerke, the motion carried unanimously. 2004-0477 BC0016 / o(7/ Let the minutes reflect that the above and foregoing actions were attested to and respectfully submitted by the Acting Clerk to the Board.
