The Weld County -
Cooperative Mosquito Control Program Objectives
The need to protect residents and visitors from the health risks, severe
annoyance, and discomfort associated with biting mosquitoes is a chronic -
problem. The primary objective of the Weld County Cooperative Mosquito
Control Program is to suppress the development of larval mosquitoes in wetland
and other sites, to monitor and reduce numbers of adult mosquitoes thereby -
reducing overall mosquito populations to an acceptable low-biting "annoyance
level", while reducing the threat of mosquito-borne disease transmission, all at
the least possible cost, and with the least possible impact on people and the -
natural environment.
CMC Objectives
Colorado Mosquito Control, Inc. as the contractor for the Weld County -
Cooperative Mosquito Control Program will use proven scientific integrated pest
management (IPM) methods of survey, inspection, diagnosis,
biological/biochemical controls, natural enemies and limited low-toxicity pesticide -
applications to professionally accomplish the objectives of the Program. All of
the methods and materials used have been reviewed and registered by the U.S.
EPA, Centers for Disease Control, the Colorado Department of Agriculture and the American Mosquito Control Association.
Integrated Pest Management:
"A process consisting of the balanced use of cultural, biological, and least-toxic -
chemical procedures that are environmentally compatible and economically feasible to
reduce pest and vector populations to a tolerable level"

-- BACKGROUND & INTRODUCTION
During the spring of 2003, Weld County and 21 cooperating municipalities took an
unprecedented step in the fight against mosquitoes, mosquito-borne disease, and the
threat of West Nile Virus. They joined together to initiate a large-scale, community wide —
mosquito control program designed to reduce the mosquito population, and in turn
protect Weld County residents from mosquito transmitted illness.
In 2004 this initiative continued, expanded, and became more aggressive with the
addition of 2 more municipalities, a doubling in the number of CDC and gravid traps, an
increase in staff of more than 50%, and the addition of over 1000 new breeding sites. —
Colorado Mosquito Control, Inc. (CMC), an established large-scale municipal
mosquito control company contracted by the Weld County Commissioners in 2003 —
continued operating, developing and improving the Weld County Mosquito Control
Program in 2004. The Weld County Health Department (WCHD) Environmental Health
Section worked with CMC and the State Health Department to ensure that the mosquito
population was accurately tested for mosquito transmittable diseases such as West Nile -
Virus. Through voluntary intergovernmental agreements each municipality was
responsible for paying the cost of mosquito control within their individual boundaries
while the county paid for mosquito control in a mile wide buffer area surrounding each -
cooperating municipality. The total contracted area within the county was approximately
400 square miles.
Within the boundaries of each control area are an extremely diverse group of
people, interests and topography. Agriculture is the largest industry in Weld County.
Dairy farming, beef/ pork/ poultry production, vegetable and turf grass farms, traditional -
corn / wheat production, ranching, horse rearing, etc. are all economically and culturally
important and are major users of water, critically important to mosquito control. Smaller,
but no less important to the culture and economy of the county are The University of -
Northern Colorado, high tech industry, oil and gas production, and mineral extraction.
Weld County also now contains 7 of the 10 fastest growing communities in -
Colorado. With these new areas of development came new residents, many from areas
with a history of mosquito control programs. These new residents often brought with
them high expectations of mosquito reduction, customer service, environmental safety,
and the fear of West Nile Virus. In meeting many of these individuals, CMC found that —
many had a personal experience with this mosquito-borne illness, either through having
the disease themselves, or by having a family member or friend who had contracted it.
The geography of the control area is also quite diverse. Features within the control
area include 5 major creek and river drainages; large areas of ditch, flood, and sprinkler
irrigated agricultural land; large riparian habitats; dry hills covered with indigenous -
rangeland; dry land farming areas; large cities; small agricultural communities; and
quickly growing communities for the greater Denver Metropolitan area. This diversity
makes many areas of Weld County prime breeding habitat for both nuisance and -
disease carrying mosquitoes.

Under the 2004 contract, CMC was once again responsible for all aspects of the
Weld County Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, targeting larval mosquitoes,
but also providing intensive adult mosquito surveillance and control, laboratory
identification of mosquito species, customer service, and public education. Again, all
these services saw a dramatic increase in 2004, with an emphasis on the treatment of
existing sites and the addition of new larval mosquito habitats.
-- 2004 SEASON PERSPECTIVE
With the end of the 2003 mosquito control season came planning for 2004. This process
involves focusing on program strengths, and identifying solutions to trouble areas. This
occurs on all levels, from how data is entered, to how the overall program is managed.
Colorado Mosquito Control prides itself on the idea of "constant improvement." This
cycle takes place year round, with management identifying ways to streamline and
problem solve. It was first agreed that the program needed to be overseen by one
management team, and operated out of one office. With the fall came plans for a new
organization of management, and moving the company headquarters to a more strategic
location.
As the fall progressed, the mapping of new larval breeding sites began and the GIS
(Geographic Information System) database was updated with information. As this
process was taking place, CMC identified a new, experienced manager to head the 2004
Weld County Mosquito Control program and also began to look for a new location for its
corporate office.
Tony Stilwell joined CMC in January and immediately began planning for the 2004
season. Shortly after his arrival, the company identified an office location in Brighton.
This new facility offered a more central location, better warehousing facilities, a larger
fleet area for the 20 additional vehicles to be purchased, a much improved lab facility,
and more overall room for growth and expansion. Once the move took place, a
computer networking and database system was put into the building. This new system
would provide the company with faster access to records, and allow for better
organization and utilization of all data.
With the database now updated, the time consuming task of map printing and route
planning took place. With the increase in sites came an increase in the number of
larviciding routes, expanding to 124 in 2004. Along with this came an increase in CDC
and Gravid traps. Some trap locations remained the same from 2003 to 2004, while
others were relocated based on their performance from the previous year, as well as
geographic area. At the same time, traps were added to areas to offer better data
collection. These additional traps would prove to almost double the amount of data
collected from 2003.
With the season rapidly approaching, hiring and training began. New candidates
were identified, and interviewed. When available, veteran employees were rehired for
their knowledge and experience. CMC invests a significant amount of time, effort, and
money training seasonal technicians. Training includes a full day of classroom training

5
and a minimum of three full days of on the job field training. In addition, there is
specialized training such as ATV use and the application of mosquito barrier treatments. -
Training covers mosquito biology, wetlands ecology, mosquito control products,
environmental toxicology, laws and regulations related to pesticides and commercial
pesticide applications, company policy, landowner and public relations. CMC works to
insure that all technicians are knowledgeable, confident, and comfortable doing their job -
prior to working on their own in the field.
CMC geared up during May, and by the end of the month field technicians were fully -
trained and working independently. With new areas from 2003 now fully mapped and
routed, and techs in the process of inspecting and treating larval breeding sites, the
season was in full swing. Customer calls began to come in as soon as the temperature and mosquito population began to increase. These calls included mosquito annoyance
complaints. However, most of these early mosquitoes were identified in the field to
actually be midge flies, but as the month continued on, trap counts would increase and -
adult control would begin.
June brought rain and higher mosquito counts, increasing the amount of phone calls
received. Techs were busy not only treating larval habitat, but also performing customer
service calls and continually mapping new sites. Adulticiding was taking place based on -
trap counts and customer annoyance calls. The GIS database played an ever
increasing role in our adult control operations with the computer routing of all spray
areas within Weld County. Maps would include the spray route as well any "shut-off'
areas, and all necessary special instructions. This provided a consistent application with -
calibrated ULV(ultra low volume) equipment.
Each mosquito season seems to bring a unique set of circumstances created by the -
complex interactions of temperature, precipitation, irrigation, and mosquito biology.
What seems to be the trend across the country with weather patterns and West Nile
Virus held true for Colorado in 2004. As in the eastern states, the year after the virus has a major impact, the weather pattern is cooler and wetter. This aids in the
suppression of the Culex mosquito. The heavy rains we received in 2004 occurred at
times when the Culex population historically is on the rise. These rains not only flush out -
containers such as catch basins, but also keep wetland areas more conducive to
floodwater mosquito habitat.
In August 2004, we had the heavy rains that flooded the Platte River and many wetland
sites as well. Although these rains increased the overall mosquito population, the
majority of these were Aedes vexans the floodwater mosquito. This fact along with the
great increase in larviciding and adult control would prove to keep WNV far below 2003 -
levels. This is evident in the chart below. As you can see the numbers of Culex in 2004
were dramatically down from the previous year, with no major spikes in the population.

Throughout August, reports of West Nile positive mosquitoes from the Weld County
Health Department were also coming in. A positive horse was also reported from
Platteville. In total, the county reported eight positive mosquito pools in August.
Surveillance, larviciding, and adult control efforts were focused on these areas to
immediately reduce the Culex population. To date (October 6, 2004), Weld County has
had only six reported human cases of West Nile Virus, with no deaths. This case
number may increase throughout the upcoming months due to late reporting. But as you
can see, the number of human cases has been drastically decreased by use of a
mosquito focused IPM program.
— By September the season was winding down. With lower evening temperatures the trap
numbers began to drop. Larviciding operations continued, to ensure low numbers of
adult mosquitoes, and mapping of new larval breeding sites was still taking place.
These new mapped areas will allow us to provide even more control for the upcoming
2005 season.
Overall, 2004 proved that by using an Integrated Pest Management Program focused on
eliminating both nuisance and disease carrying mosquitoes, you provide residents with
protection from disease, better health, and the ability to use and enjoy what Colorado is
so known for, the`Great Outdoors."

-- WEST NILE VIRUS UPDATE
People living along the Colorado Front-Range including residents of Weld County
became well acquainted with the link between mosquitoes and West Nile Virus during _
the summer of 2003. In the Adams, Denver, Jefferson, Broomfield, Boulder and Weld
county areas there were a total of 1429 confirmed human cases of WNV cases including
31 fatal cases during 2003. In the same area, there have been 44 confirmed human
cases during 2004 with no fatalities. 6 of these cases occurred in Weld County, with no
deaths reported. (Data presented is from the Colorado Department of Health and
Environment web site - October 4, 2004). This number will likely rise during the Fall —
season as human cases show up after the incubation period, however the total cases,
particularly fatal cases have dropped dramatically during 2004.
Decreased prevalence of WNV during 2004 can be attributed to a variety of factors that —
form a complex web that impacted the number of human and animal cases. Weather
conditions less favorable to the production of large populations of Culex spp. _
mosquitoes, an increase in awareness about WNV, and an increased willingness among
the general public to use insect repellents were important in reducing WNV cases during
2004. Two other factors that probably had the greatest impact on the decrease in WNV
cases were fewer susceptible avian hosts — most birds at least a year old were exposed
to the virus in 2003 and either died or developed immunity, and continued aggressive
mosquito control activities. —
Distribution and Severity of Human WNV during 2004 _
During the 2004 summer season, WNV activity continued in much of the nation, with the
brunt of the human cases shifting to western Colorado, Arizona and California. Colorado
residents on the West Slope suffered the highest number of WNV cases in the state with
the vast majority occurring in the Grand Valley in and around the City of Grand Junction
in Mesa County. Mesa County attributed 125 or 46.1% of human cases out of only 271 -
cases reported in the State of Colorado. Only three deaths have occurred so far in
Colorado in 2004, all in Mesa County.
Data from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
indicated Colorado had 2,336 human cases of WNV and 44 deaths for the season as of
October 9, 2003. For 2004, as of October 4th, Colorado has reported a total of 271
human cases and 3 deaths. The distribution and severity of confirmed human WNV
cases are shown in the tables and maps below. Outside of Colorado, California has the
highest totals, reporting 583 human cases and 16 deaths. Arizona currently has
reported 370 cases with 7 deaths

Encephalitis Surveillance
For 2004 CMC discontinued the collection of dead birds, and the testing of sentinel
chicken flocks for encephalitis surveillance as these have been determined to be less
effective in providing an early warning for WNV as compared to SLE and WEE. More
emphasis was placed on the operation of both CDC and Gravid mosquito traps this year
to monitor WNV and vector mosquito activity.
In Weld County overall, CMC operated a total of 98 traps (70 CDC & 28 Gravid) in 2004
compared to 70 traps (46 CDC & 24 gravid) in 2003. Please see the light trap location
map in the Appendix for trap locations. Data results will be covered later in the report.
Eleven mosquito pools tested positive (4 from Weld traps, 7 from CMC traps) in the
county in 2004. One positive bird and one positive horse were reported for the 2004
season, as of October 7, 2004.
Due to the very low prevalence of positives mosquito pools, little evidence of avian or
equine activity and few and widely scatted human cases, no emergency adult mosquito
control applications were planned or implemented in Weld County. In fact the only
emergency WNV/mosquito control applications that took place in the state occurred in
Mesa and Delta Counties.

-- LARVAL MOSQUITO CONTROL
The foundation of any IPM based mosquito control program is larval mosquito
control. Having established an effective, comprehensive larval control program in 2003,
the 2004 season reemphasized its focus on locating and mapping larval development
sites, obtaining permission to access and treat the sites, and continuing regular
inspections. Landowner participation is of primary importance in this aspect of mosquito
control, and CMC utilizes several methods to contact individuals. Obviously, the best
alternative is to speak directly with the landowner; however this is complicated by
landowners who work off the property, or who do not live on the property. The most
_ effective method to reach landowners who aren't home during the daytime is to leave
information about the program and a card with a technicians name and the office
telephone number on the door. CMC also utilizes the Weld County landowner website
to identify owners of larger properties such as farms and ranches.
Once we contact the appropriate landowner, we give them information about who
we are, why we are asking for permission to work on their property, and how the specific
activity we wish to pursue on their property fits within the overall mosquito control
program. CMC provides landowners any product related information they may want
including pesticide labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). We also answer any
questions they may have regarding livestock, non-target species including bees, pets,
and wildlife.

Questions related to the costs of the control and who is paying for our services are -
often answered by CMC personnel. By being as straightforward as possible, CMC is
able to keep landowners and the general public informed about the program.
Landowners are often an invaluable source of information about additional larval -
development sites and property ownership. This proved to be the case in 2004 with
many ranchers and farmers notifying us about irrigation and flooded pastures. Because
of their help and cooperation, many new sites were discovered near and around
developing areas. In one such case a rancher took a field technician on a 2 hour tour of -
his property. During this time, he located approximately 50 acres of total mosquito
development areas.
At the present time, there are 3647 individual larval development sites divided
among 23 areas. As with all mosquito control programs, the number of sites will increase
in the future if the control areas are maintained. It typically takes 2-3 seasons to locate and map the majority of larval development sites in an area. Based on past experience,
CMC has likely mapped approximately 85 percent of the individual larval development
sites located within the Weld County mosquito control area. Larval control will improve _
as additional sites are located, and as permission is gained from landowners to work on
sites currently mapped.

During the 2004 season, technicians were able to inspect sites in each route on a
_ weekly basis from early June through mid-September. Some sites were inspected more
frequently depending on temperature and previous history. Specific information
regarding larval inspection and treatment is presented in the Appendix. As you can see,
all areas saw an overall increase in the number of larval site inspections in 2004. Areas
such as Evans, Greeley, and LaSalle saw an increase of over 500 site inspections for
the year.
Although all areas in Weld County saw an increase in the number of site inspections, in
some cases this was accompanied with a decrease in the total acreage treated. By
doing more frequent site inspections, we can pinpoint larval development at its source,
before it spreads throughout the entire breeding site. This allows us to reduce product
application, while keeping mosquitoes from taking over an entire wetland area. We also
believe that better education and landowner communication has allowed us to limit the
amount of water and drainage let into many of the larval sites, while high rains flushed
out many problem areas.

-- ADULT MOSQUITO SURVEILLANCE AND CONTROL
SURVEILLANCE
Adult mosquito population monitoring is an integral part of the IPM mosquito control
program for Weld County. This year as in 2003, both CMC and the WCHD set traps to _
monitor adult mosquito populations throughout the program area. Traps were set in the
same location each week to maintain continuity of data, and to provide future
comparative value. Some trap locations may have been modified however, to better
reflect customer needs. Adult mosquito traps were used to determine adult species -
present, relative abundance, and total adult mosquito population. CMC traps, as well as
any WCHD traps that contained Culex mosquitoes were pooled and sent to the State for
testing, if found to be positive, further trapping along with adulticiding and larviciding took -
place.
In addition to the weekly traps, floater (CDC traps that move to different locations) -
traps were also set throughout the season in response to mosquito annoyance calls.
Floater traps were also set in areas where CMC had not receive annoyance calls, but
desired to assess the adult mosquito population -
Highlights for 2004 include nearly doubling the number of CDC and Gravid traps
from 2003. This allowed us to more accurately identify areas with high larval breeding, -
as well as track migration. By detecting were the mosquitoes were moving in from, we
were able to locate large areas of larval habitat, and inspect them on a regular basis.
Traps were also set in a "zone" formation. Each CDC and associated gravid trap was _
contained within a zone that corresponded directly with an adulticiding route. These
zones were based on geographic conditions, as well population densities.
There was also the discovery of a new mosquito species in Colorado. A single
specimen of the Asian Tiger Mosquito, Aedes albopictus, was collected in a trap located
northwest Fort Lupton in 2003, and believed to be just an isolated specimen. However,
nearly two dozen specimens were collected from the same general area this season, • -
implying that they have become established in the area. Unfortunately, this species
defies normal control measures. The larvae occur in small containers where traditional
larvicide activities are difficult, and the adults are generally day-flying, thereby being -
active during a time when adulticide activities do not occur. With the large number of
tree holes and other small containers lining the length of the South Platte River in both
directions from Fort Lupton, it is reasonable to expect this introduced species to increase -
its range next year towards Denver to the south and Greeley to the north.
Adult mosquito surveillance and control was initiated during the first week of June. -
In Weld County, CMC set 70 CDC light traps and 28 gravid traps, divided into 7 trap
routes. Each trap was set on a weekly basis, 15 to 17 times through the season.
Colorado Mosquito Control's total number of CDC trap nights for the season was 1053 -
including "floater" traps; the total number of gravid trap nights for the season was 373.

CONTROL
Adult mosquito control using ultra low volume (ULV), calibrated spraying equipment
is an important part of any IPM based mosquito control program. Although fogging for
adult mosquitoes is considered a last resort, when done properly it presents minimal
environmental and human health risks. By applying an appropriate amount of product as
very small (ULV) droplets after sunset, CMC is able to avoid significant non-target
effects. None of the products registered in the United States for ULV mosquito control
pose any risk of bioaccumulation or bio-magnification. All available products break down
rapidly under environmental conditions, and are very easily metabolized by humans and
domestic animals. The products however are very effective in killing adult mosquitoes.
By utilizing unbiased surveillance techniques and ULV fogging only those areas with
high adult mosquito populations, CMC is able to minimize adult mosquito spraying. In
Weld County, CMC had a spray threshold of 100 adult female mosquitoes in a CO2
baited light trap in one night. In areas of high resident complaints, a floater trap would
be set and based on the findings adult control would occur.

This year the adulticiding program became more focused using traps in a network of -
zones to identify spray areas. These zones were numbered and computer mapped to
allow for a consistent route application. These fogging routes usually cover relatively
large areas (several square miles) in an effort to reduce the mosquito population within a _
given zone. The use of this zone system would ultimately increase the amount of total
miles sprayed in 2004. And combined with the increase in larviciding, would greatly
reduce the adult population.
For special city and town events (such as concerts in the park and festivals), CMC
again offered a short term residual backpack baffler spray of the immediate area. If the
general mosquito population is low to moderate, it is often more effective to spray an -
individual area to prevent a mosquito problem during a particular event. The barrier
sprays typically are effective for a period of 2 to 4 days, and because of their residual
properties may have significant effects to non-target insects in the area treated. Because of the low toxicity to humans and domestic animals, CMC uses a pyrethroid insecticide
for these barrier treatments. If the mosquito population is high or the area is too large,
we couple localized barrier treatments with ULV adulticiding the day before the event. -
Barrier treatments played another important role in 2004. With the trapping network
increased, CMC was able to identify mosquito migration patterns from outside of some -
treatment areas. Once these patterns were identified, a barrier could be applied to form
a type of invisible wall, and thus reduce the numbers of adult mosquitoes moving into an
area. This proved effective in areas such as Evans Riverside Park and parts of
Platteville. -

-- PUBLIC RELATIONS, CUSTOMER SERVICE & EDUCATION ---
In 2004 a renewed emphasis was placed on public relations, customer service and
education. CMC is aware that often these services are as important as the actual
control of mosquitoes. This service involves contact with government officials, media,
and the public. The emergence of WNV and the subsequent epidemic brought on an
incredible amount of press coverage to the state as well as the Weld County Program in
2003. This continued in 2004. Throughout the season CMC was contacted by local and
national media from television, radio, and print sources, with most of the requests
coming early in the season. CMC dealt with media personnel with the greatest courtesy,
responsiveness, and professionalism. All requests for interviews were accepted and
dealt with by management staff. Calls from residents within mosquito control areas
were being received even before the start of the season. Each of these calls was given
the same weight as those from the media. CMC's website www.comosquitocontrol.com
posted new information for Weld County residents, as well as daily updates of all spray
schedules.

CUSTOMER SERVICE -
Customer service needs to be the number one priority of any business and CMC
makes no exception. For the 2004 season, Weld County Mosquito Control management -
would place an emphasis on training field technicians to understand the needs of our
customers, and on how to better educate the public on mosquito control methods.
Technicians were trained and ready with answers once sent into the field. If any -
technician did not have the answer, they would call to their supervisor for direct
assistance, or ask the customer to call into the main office and speak with the program
manager. Each call is considered equally important and was treated as such with a
resolution usually taking place in 1-2 days. Calls needing special assistance to ensure -
proper customer service were given directly to the manager or supervisor of the
program. These questions were most often handled "on-site" with the manager meeting
directly with the resident. Colorado Mosquito Control also encouraged residents to call the Mosquito Hotline with complaints. Complaint calls are used as a secondary indicator
or where mosquito populations are high and causing human annoyance problems. This
enabled us to pinpoint localized problem areas and to target larval and adult control -
operations and increase overall control effectiveness. The largest and perhaps most
important call type is still the reporting of new potential larval sites. These are calls from
residents reporting standing water on properties or along roadways which can be -
attributed to increased education efforts discussed later in this section.
Another aspect of CMC's customer service is the notification and shutoff list. CMC -
prides itself in making every attempt possible to accommodate the needs and wishes of
the residents of the Weld County mosquito control program area. The database
includes names, addresses, and phone numbers and is continually updated and
checked before any spraying application. Requests for phone notification before -
spraying and shutoff requests in front of and upwind from addresses are always
honored. This program continues to be well received and much appreciated by
residents. -
EDUCATION
Press coverage of WNV continued in 2004 as did the "Fight the Bite Colorado"
campaign. Weld County also provided an aggressive bilingual education program not
only helping to increase awareness of mosquitoes, their biology, and source reduction, but on personal protection as well. Source reduction to eliminate mosquito habitat is
perhaps the largest single tactic individual homeowners can do to reduce the number of
mosquitoes in their area. Simple methods include checking for standing water around the house in common items such as buckets, rain gutters, and bird baths. Fear of WNV
and public education from the previous season increased awareness of standing water
and prompted residents to be on the look out for standing water early on in 2004. -
Although most of these sites were already mapped, it prompted a CMC inspection to
ensure the site was correctly identified and not breeding.
Because CMC wanted residents to be sure that nearby mosquito habitats were
being routinely inspected, the website was updated with a GIS map layout of all current
breeding sites within each community. Residents could locate a given area they feared

COLORADO MO SO I I TO CONT ROL. INL.
20
could be breeding and then determine if it needed to be called in as a new site. This not
only reduced time spent checking existing sites, but also helped to alleviate customer
concerns.
Mosquito repellents containing DEET were still the best form of personal protection,
however most surveys found that even after 2003 many people were still not wearing
them. Stronger campaigns on the severity of the virus and the simplicity of precautions
began early in 2004 to better educate the public.
-- SUMMARY
In 2004, Weld County in cooperation with 23 municipalities continued with a large
and aggressive IPM mosquito control program under contract with Colorado Mosquito
Control, Inc. This program was put into place to reduce the threat to humans and
livestock of mosquito bome disease such as West Nile Virus.
With another years worth of experience in Weld County it once again comes time to
reassess and improve the program for 2005. Mosquito control programs by nature are
constantly evolving. This is even true in areas that have had programs for many years.
Because of globalization and the increase in travel, diseases once isolated to unique
parts of the world are now free to spread across the globe. Mosquito control programs
must constantly stay one step ahead, often waiting for the next flood, species, or disease
to arrive. The same holds true for the Weld County Mosquito Control Program.
Over the 19 years since its inception, Colorado Mosquito Control, Inc. has
successfully established IPM mosquito control programs throughout the State of
Colorado. The CMC management covering Weld County alone has over 16 years of
experience in mosquito control operations and education. It is this combined
experience, knowledge, and drive that allowed Weld County to jump ahead this year and
successfully limit mosquitoes, mosquito borne illness, and allow residents and visitors
alike to confidently enjoy Colorado's greatest resource, the great outdoors.
The challenge at times seemed overwhelming considering the huge geographic
area, the amount of field work to be done, the number of entities involved, and the
diversity of the people and geography of the mosquito control area. But everyone at
CMC and within Weld County, the Health Department, the municipalities, residents, all
had one focused goal, to keep the mosquito population down and thus reduce the threat
of West Nile Virus. And once again, the level of cooperation between CMC, the WCHD,
and each municipality was unprecedented.
CMC is proud of the service it has provided to Weld County, each municipality, and
every resident. We would like to thank the Municipalities, the Weld County
Commissioners, and the Weld County Health Department for their confidence, support
and direction. We look forward to protecting your health and serving your needs in the
seasons to come.
