Box 758 CGreeley, Colorado 80632 COLORADO August 9, 2004 Mr. Pete R. Ortega 2137 26" Ave. Ct Greeley, CO. 80634 RE: Great Western— OmniTrax Railroad Crossing on WCR 66 (Eastman Park Drive) Dear Mr. Ortega Thank you for your letter to Commissioner Dave Long expressing concern for the safety of the driving public at the railroad crossing on WCR 66 (Eastman Park Drive). Our Public Works Department has inspected this location and identified the action necessary to mitigate the problem you referenced. As you noted, the problem is with the abrupt grade change at the track crossing. The United States Department of Transportation and the Colorado Public Utilities Commission strictly regulate the division of responsibilities when work is needed on railroad crossings of public roadways. While the most significant part of correction measures necessary are the responsibility of the railroad company, we will coordinate with them in whatever means necessary to mitigate this problem. We will make immediate contact with Mr. Shawn Vecellio, Roadmaster for OmniTrax Railroad, to report and coordinate a maintenance schedule. If you have further questions on this issue, please contact Mr. Jeff Jerome, Public Works Operations Division Manager, at 970-356-4000, Extension 3750. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY OMMISSIONERS Robert D. Masden, Chair Weld County Commission Mr. Pete R. Ortega VELD LD :\1-'T‘' 2137 26th Ave. Ct. Cr • Greeley, Co. 80634 L Weld County Commissioner '3 9 12 David Long '—., 945 Tenth Street " P.O. Box 758 Greeley, CO. 80632 Dear Commissioner Long: As a life citizen, and Veteran of Weld County I find it necessary to write you this letter to see if something can be done about a situation on one of Weld County's roads that is daily becoming more unsafe. The concern I have is for Eastman Park Drive which runs east and west in front of the Eastman Kodak plant. At the East entrance to this plant there is a set of railroad tracks that intersect Eastman Park Drive. I am told that the road belongs to Weld County and the tracks to GW/Omni Trax. Where the tracks intersect the road they have sunken so low into the ground that they have created a road wide depression into the ground, which is unsafe to go over at posted speed limits. As an employee for Eastman Kodak I must use that road to commute to work on a daily basis. Like many other Kodak employees' as well as many other vechiles that use this road have to slow down almost to a stop to go over this set of tracks. To take the tracks at the posted speed would not only endanger you but others that are in the immediate vicinity. This would also subject your vehicle to undo stress that most likely could necessitate costly repair to your vehicle. Since you are the County Commissioner for District One I respectfully ask that you look into this situation to see if a resolve can be found to render this crossing safe. My thanks for any assistance you and your office may provide. Respectfully elly Pete R. Ortega 1 ~ Hello
