Loveland, CO 80537-8283 Dear Mr. Cash: • This letter is in response to your letter dated January 19, 2004, concerning the Great Western railroad tracks on Weld County Road 17 and WCR 60. Lee Pierce, Maintenance Support Foreman, notified the Great Western Railroad and requested immediate attention to the "floating iron" traffic hazard. They responded by sending a service crew and removed the hazard on January 29, 2004. The roughness of the tracks was also brought to their attention. Weld County has no authority or jurisdiction over the railroad tracks for maintenance or upgrades. We did express our concern to Great Western over the need for maintaining the railroad crossing. We are hopeful they will respond very soon. If you have any other concerns or comments, please call Lee Pierce at (970)356-4000, Ext. 3750. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Robert D. Box 758 915 Tenth Street Greeley Colorado 80632 Dear Sirs: I would like to bring to your attention a traffic hazard that has been made worse by the traffic volume involved. The Great Western railroad crossing at WCR 17, north of SH 34 needs attention to correct roughness and more importantly, apiece of iron is floating above the grade waiting to puncture a tire. A tire blow out at this location would be disastrous to the majority of the high-speed traffic using this road. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
