The Sheriff's Department, itself, confirms this in the referral response that it submits to the Weld County Board of County Commissioners with each proposal for intensification of land use. It states: "The Sheriff's Office lacks the ability to absorb additional service demand without the resources recommended in the multi-year plan provided to the Board of County Commissioners or as indicated by growth not considered at the time the plan was developed". Irrespective of this, the Board continues to expand the MUD district and approve more residential developments within it without consideration of their impacts. In the meantime the Sheriff's Office is relying on enforcement assistance being provided by Longmont and other MUD district area agencies, through cooperative agreements, at a cost to the taxpayers of those surrounding areas. This is just another example of the "free ride" mentality of the Weld Commissioners in permitting more urban development, under County auspices in the ever- expanding MUD district. The "free ride" includes, besides relying on other jurisdictions for law enforcement, not providing adequate roads, library, recreational or park facilities, an IGA with the School District stabilizing population growth with school capacity, or coordination with other districts providing services, such as fire protection and ambulance service. Besides those already in the pipeline, The Board will be shortly hearing applications for developments that will provide for over 5000 additional dwelling units within the MUD district. Based on the Board's past performance, the Board will irresponsibly approve them, with no consideration of their health, safety, welfare and monetary impacts on the surrounding communities.
