RE: FORMATION OF AMBULANCE DISTRICT
Dear Members of the Board,
The NWVET which staffs the County Ambulance based in Pierce has
been affiliated with Weld County Ambulance for over six years.
In that time we have been very pleased with the service provided
and have no regrets with the aforementioned affiliation but feel
the need for advancement in areas that Weld County can not provide.
Therefore, at our last meeting our group voted to pursue forming
an ambulance district with our own governing board. and tax base
and are asking your permission to form such a district and begin
the necessary legal work, circulate petitions, and hold necessary
elections.
We would like to emphasize that this is not an attempt on our part
to alienate ourselves from Weld County Ambulance realizing that
with a district we would still need paramedic assists through a
mutual aid agreement and would like to continue the current rapport
we have with Weld County Ambulance.
Our reasons for requesting an ambulance district are as follows:
1. We realize that it would not he cost effective for Weld
County to provide an ALS service for our area yet we
feel that; residents desire a service which could be ALS
in nature, and are willing to pay for such a service.
2. While Fire Departments in our area are fine as first-
responder and Basic Life Support units there is no
opportunity for advancement whereas with a district
we feel training levels would be maintained at a much
higher level and eventually could provide personnel
to be paid on a part time basis to provide even more of
an advanced level of care.
3. We feel this more advanced level of care with a tran-
sporting ambulance is necessary for our area for over 60%
of our calls are 20 or inure minutes away from the nearest
ALS unit.
L . In order for us to have a district and provide more
advanced care we realize we would need a physician
advisor. We have consulted our current physician advisor
and he was very receptive to our proposal of an ambulance
district and will seriously consider being our physician
S0o453 advisor.

5. By grantil,g us a district with an ambulance it would free
one ambulance for service in the more populated areas of
Greeley and Southern Weld County.
The proposed district would include the boundries of Highland School
District RE-9 providing us with a tax base of approximately 23. 1
million.
In conclusion we feel the residents of the proposed district are
very supportive and we have contacted the three towns involved
and all were very receptive and supportive of the idea. We would
like you to strongly consider granting us the district and would
be more than willing to meet with you at a later date to answer
any further questions and provide any further information you
would need to reach a decision.
Sincerely,
Randall L. Souther
Secretary NWVET
