RE: AUTHORIZE THE PLACEMENT OF CITY SIGNS OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS
OF THE CITY OF GREELEY, COLORADO
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
as the legislative body of the County has the power and duty to
determine those actions which are necessary and proper for the
County as fulfilling a public purpose, and
WHEREAS, the Board finds that efforts to promote the City of
Greeley through advertising, publicity, and public relations acti-
vities has a public purpose in promoting the welfare of the
citizenry, and
WHEREAS, the Board finds that the erection of advertising
signs will promote the City of Greeley and the welfare of its
citizens and said signs are for a public purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Public Works Depart-
ment of the City of Greeley be, and hereby is, authorized to
erect promotional signs outside the jurisdictional limits of the
City at the intersection of Highway 34 Bypass and the future lo-
cation of Birch Avenue.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 6th day of
July, 1983.

Dear Chuck:
Earlier this year, the City of Greeley initiated a program whereby
"Welcome to Greeley" signs have been placed and/or are anticipated for
placement at various locations along State Highway entrances to the
City. It is our understanding from the Colorado Department of Highways
that if the Weld County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution
authorizing the erection of signs on property located outside the City
limits in Weld County that the requirements of the State Highway Depart-
ment would be met. To this end, a sample resolution is enclosed for
consideration and adoption by the County Commissioners authorizing
placement of a "Welcome to Greeley" sign near U.S. 34 and Burch Avenue.

is appreciated.
