Re: Information on Weld County's Website
Dear Mr. Ptak:
I was asked by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County to respond to your letter
expressing concerns regarding the information contained on Weld County's website.
Please be advised that pursuant to C.R.S. § 24-72-203, all of the information contained in Weld
County's website is considered to be open to the public for inspection. This rule applies to such
information regardless of whether or not it may be accessed on the internet. The only restriction
upon the release of any information over the internet pertains to peace officers. Pursuant to
C.R.S. § 18-9-313(2), it is unlawful for a person to"knowingly to make available on the intemet
personal information about a peace officer. . . if the dissemination of the information poses an
imminent and serious threat to the peace officer's safety or the safety of the peace officer's
immediate family and the person making the information available on the internet knows or
reasonably should know of the imminent and serious threat."

A few years ago I became a victim of identity theft.
You can imagine my surprise and fear when I started to receive letters from different
banks and insurance agencies detailing EVERTHING about my home and me even after I
have taken all possible precautions.
Come to find out, Weld County posts personnel and home information on their
WEBSITE! Yes, this website was mentioned through my investigations. It is provided at
the bottom of this letter for your viewing. Type in my home address and you will get an
incredible amount of information about me.
It is truly scary that this information is available to anyone with an Internet connection.
It is enough information for anyone to steal anyone else's identity!
I implore you to remove this information from the Weld County website.
I implore you to institute levels of control of this information. A disclaimer is not enough.
Please, Please, Please stop this very valuable source of information from being released
into the wrong hands.
I went going through a NIGHTMARE because the wrong person got my information.
