Subject: Third Filing Aristocrat Ranchettes
Automatic Fire Suppression Systems
Dear Mr. Richardson:
The Department of Planning Services and Building Inspection is in receipt of your letter dated October 17,
2005 concerning three residences in this subdivision that currently do not have an automatic fire suppression
system. In discussion with Roger Vigil, Chief Building Official, it was determined the status of each of these
residences is as follows:
16163 Barley Avenue- Replacement Home based applicant's information. Inspection Information Sheet is
attached. Given that this was a replacement home, staff determined that no
automatic fire suppression system was required. (PRS-053034)
16183 Barley Avenue- Staff received electronic correspondence from Mark Shaner, dated October 8, 2004,
stating that an automatic fire suppression system would not be installed on this
parcel as the parcel was in close proximity to an existing fire hydrant.(PRS-043051)
16203 Barley Avenue- Staff released this Building Permit, (PRS-043070) and Finaled the structure in
January 2005. The position of this office is this situation is closed with no further
action required by the Department of Building Inspection.
In reference to future building permit applications,it is the intent of this office to cooperate with the Fort Lupton
Fire Protection District specific to the automatic fire suppression system requirement established by your
department. This office will direct building permit applicants to your office for discussion of this requirement,
however, it is our position to not enforce the regulations of the Fire Protection District.
Should you have any questions or need further information, Bryon Horgen, Assistant Building Official or
myself may be reached at the above address or telephone number.
Sincerely,
Kim Ogle
Planning Manager

RE: Sierra Vista Estates in the 3RD filing of Aristocrat Ranchetts
Dear County Commissioners:
Last year the Fort Lupton Fire District Board met with Jay Scolnik, the owner/developer
of the Sierra Vista Estates and required the homes in this development to have automatic
fire sprinkler systems installed in each home. A letter was sent to the Weld County
Building and Planning Department advising them of this requirement. However the
Building Department issued (3)three Certificates of Occupancy to 16163 Barley Ave.,
16183 Barley Ave. and 16203 Barley Ave. without these homes having sprinkler systems
installed.
The Fire District Board is aware of this situation and has required me to send a letter to
the Building Department and the County Commissioners to see what could be done to
rectify this situation.
Sincerely
Larry Richardson
Fire Marshal
