Home My WebLink About20052997.tiff RESOLUTION RE: EXPRESSION OF SUPPORT FOR LOCATION OF IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT OFFICE IN GREELEY, COLORADO WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, violent crime, methamphetamine distribution, alcohol related offenses and structured gang activity have presented themselves as serious,growing, interconnected problems in Weld County, and WHEREAS, the foregoing crimes represent a significant threat to the safety of Weld County's citizens, and WHEREAS, some of the foregoing crimes are committed by illegal aliens and removing criminal illegal aliens from Weld County would ease the burden on law enforcement resources and promote the safety of Weld County's citizens, and WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Weld County District Attorney and law enforcement agencies that the location of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement("ICE") office in Greeley, Colorado, would assist in combating crime in Weld County, and WHEREAS,the Board wishes to express its support for the location of an ICE field office in Greeley, Colorado. Recently, local law enforcement authorities in Greeley, Colorado,have called to my attention the growing problem of illegal immigration and crime in their community. I am writing to request that you meet with local law enforcement officials to discuss ways in which you can work together to address the issue. In the long run, opening an ICE office in Greeley may be the most effective and efficient way of dealing with the county's growing problem. If this step appears to be necessary, I will look forward to working with your office to accomplish this.
