Dear Betty:
As you are aware, on February 17, 1983, members of the Board of County
Commissioners met with the City Council and the members of the Library Blue Ribbon
Committee to discuss their recommendations. Although there was not agreement
among committee members as to the merger of the library, both the majority and
minority reports indicated that there was potential for joint efforts between the
two library systems that would be beneficial to all citizens of both the City of
Greeley and Weld County.
It was agreed that both the County Commissioners and the City Council would direct
their respective library staffs to implement as many areas of cooperative or joint
efforts as feasible, and to report back to the respective governing boards.
Please take this letter from the Board of County Commissioners as a directive to
you and your staff to fully cooperate with the library staff at the City of
Greeley in exploring as many areas as possible for consolidation or joint efforts
to more cost-effectively or better serve the citizens of Greeley and Weld County.
As feasible alternatives concerning joint or consolidated efforts between the two
library systems are developed please report back to the Board of County
Commissioners. Your support and actions in these efforts will be greatly
appreciated.
