Director of Public Works/County Engineer SUBJECT: Agenda Item Intersection Signing of WCR13 from WCR 2 to WCR 8. pc: Wayne Howard, Project Manager M:\Francie\Agenda-2.doc 2005-3562 • MEMORANDUM a Date: November 28, 2005 To: Frank B. Hempen, Jr., P.E., Director of Public Works/County Engineer From: Wayne Howard, P.E., Project Manager COLORADO RE: Intersection Signing of WCR 13, from WCR 2 to WCR 8 During the design of WCR 13, from WCR 2 to WCR 8, it was discussed that WCR 13 being classified as a major arterial should have the non-stopped condition and roadways of lesser importance should be stopped. This is consistent with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Currently, the intersections of WCR 13 with 168th Ave (WCR 2) and WCR 6 are two-way stopped conditions with WCR 13 being the stopped roadway. The City of Thornton has annexed WCR 2 and Colorado Blvd (WCR 13) south of 168th Ave is within Adams County. Both entities agree that WCR 13 (Colorado Blvd) should have the thru condition and the intersecting roadways should have the stop condition. Construction is proceeding and the intersection of WCR 13 and WCR 6 has already been paved. My recommendation is to change the stop signs as described above while the project is under construction so drivers can get use to the change in conditions. Construction traffic and local traffic on WCR 13 will still be stopped during this time until the road is open to traffic. Upon approval, we will place Stop signs at the intersection of WCR 6 with advance Stop Ahead signing and temporary flagging on posts to help catch driver's attention. Also, supplemental plagues Cross Traffic Does Not Stop (W4-4p) will be placed on all stop sign posts for the intersecting roadways once WCR 13 is open to traffic and the stop signs on WCR 13 are removed Approved 0 Initial: Engineering ivis'on Manager Approved Initial : Frank B. empen,Jr.,P.E.,Director of Public Works/County Engineer Comments : Hello
