Highway News RELEASE AT WILL Oct. 18, 1984 DOCUMENT EXPLAINS REVISIONS TO STATE HIGHWAY ACCESS CODE The Colorado Department of Highways has completed its initial develop- ment of a "rough draft" set of proposed revisions to the Access Code, and single copies are now available to interested persons. This begins a public review phase, with comments due no later than December 14. The contact person is Mr. Philip Demosthenes, Room 159, Colorado Depart- ment of Highways, 4201 E. If adopted by the Colorado Highway commission at the regular February meeting, the new revisions would go into effect April 1, 1985. 0 0 0 TASK FORCE TO REVIEW COLORADO'S STATE MAP The Colorado Department of Highways has established a task force to review the state's Travel Map. The task force, organized at an October 12 meeting, will address problems perceived by various interest groups. Included on the task force are the Colorado Tourism Board, Colorado Depart- ment of Local Affairs, Colorado Geological Survey, Colorado Counties, Inc. and the (MORE) (OVER) 1RAF#LI S 841192 ( i' I ! The group seeks formal, continuing review of each year's map. The Department of Highways has mailed letters to the state's 63 counties, many state organizations, regional councils of government and some larger commu- nities requesting comments. The agency's intent is to print a revised 1984 map during December; it should be available to the public in January. The 1985 Travel Map should reflect many additional concerns expressed by participating organizations. 0 0 0 IR 70-5(39) I-70 WEST OF BURLINGTON The Department's Division of Highways accepted 14 bids at the October 18 opening for a project to reconstruct 9.9 miles of Interstate 70 in Kit Carson county. The project begins 0.2 mile west of the Bethune interchange and extends east toward Burlington. It includes grading, structures, hot bituminous paving, seeding, mulching, lighting, signing and striping. Sterling Paving Co. of Ft. Collins submitted an apparently successful bid of $4,410,490 on the project, which requires completion within 130 working days. Resident engineer is J. W. Goetzcke of Limon. 0 0 0 MP 07-0119-27 S.H. 119 IN BOULDER CANYON Flatiron Paving Co. of Boulder submitted an apparently successful bid of $63,960 at the Division of Highways October 18 opening to widen segments of S.H. 119 in Boulder Canyon. Three firms turned in bids for a project which begins 1.1 miles east of Nederland and extends 131i miles easterly. Net length for the hot bituminous pave- ment project is four miles. H. L. Toland of Boulder is resident engineer for this project, which is scheduled for completion within twenty workable days following the Notice to Proceed. 0 0 0 FR 034-1(24) & MP 06-0036-03 TRAFFIC SIGNALS IN ESTES PARK Accurate Electric, Inc. of Denver submitted an apparently successful bid of $98,336 at the Division of Highways October 18 opening for a combined project providing traffic signals in Estes Park. Signalization is scheduled for the U.S. 34/U.S. 36 intersection. Signalization and hot bituminous pavement are scheduled for U.S. 36 at Mary's Lake Road. Three firms turned in bids for the project, which requires completion within 25 workable days following the Notice to Proceed. H. L. Toland of Boulder is resident engineer.
