Dear Mr. Spitler:
Thank you for your letter stating your concerns about Mr. Potter. When either a home owner or contractor
has a complaint, my policy is that I will meet with the contractor and the inspector either in my office or
preferably at the job site. Tom issued a correction notice on January 4, 2005 with four corrections. John
Roberts approved the rough electric on January 7,2005. In the future if you feel that Tom is not correct in his
code reference you can contact me, and we can set up a meeting with the three of us present.
If you have any questions, or if you do have other specific job locations that Mr. Potter left corrections that ireflect hirsoh al opinion and not code references please call me at 353-6100 ext 3561 or come into my
office at 10 Street in Greeley. I am in the Greeley office on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Dear Mr. Long,
I am writing to inform you of someone I would classify as a"rogue" inspector. I am referring to Mr.
Tom Potter, electrical inspector.
As a master electrician and owner of Dick's Electric, I occasionally have to work in Weld County and
have my work inspected by Mr. Potter. Since Mr. Potter has been employed as en electrical inspector,
I have tried to cut back on my work inside the county and concentrate on looking for work in other
locales.
My past history with Mr. Potter indicates that he considers himself as a self-appointed"god"in the
industry. He is inconsistent with every other inspector I have had the privilege to work with, is very
aloof about his authority and almost never passes an inspection the first time he does one. Also, he
writes correction notices to conform to what he thinks the installation should be and not what the code
requires. He also is inconsistent in his corrections from one job to another. For example, he allows
things to go on from job to job and then decides he wants to write us up now for something he has
allowed for years. It seems that he is never satisfied with our work and also seems to emphasize and
dwell on non-life safety issues.
The electricians of Weld County have for years gone back to make unneeded corrections to our work
because of the fear of reprisal from Mr. Potter. He is an inspector that holds a grudge if anyone
complains about him or confronts him. I, for one, am tired of wasting time and money to try and
appease him.
I would appreciate any kind of response to this situation.
