RE: Change Order No. 1 -Weld County Bridge 27/58A,BRO C030-021,SA 13363
This change order was written to compensate Hamon Construction for the inclusion of a bike path under the
bridge. The City of Greeley Park Department has requested that Weld County include this work into the
project. The long term trail plan is to have a trail/bike path along Sheep's Draw and it would be easier to
construct as part of this project then to try and build it later. The existing plans called for 3' of 24" grouted
riprap along the banks and channel. It would be almost impossible to remove and construct a trail in the future.
The hydraulic model has been recalculated with the sidewalk as shown which shows no negative impacts to the
design flows.
We have revised the riprap slope along the south slope to allow for a 12' wide bike path to be constructed
under the bridge over top of the grouted riprap. Ramon Contractors has proposed a cost of$17,440.00 and
includes all work necessary for the bike path construction. The new pay item will be Item 608 —Concrete
Sidewalk(Special). The cost per S.Y.calculates to$109.00. This unit cost is high but the sidewalk will take a
considerable amount of hand labor to form overtop of 3' of grouted riprap as well as modifying the shape of
the riprap slopes to allow for the sidewalk to be constructed. The contractor will be required to place the riprap
at a 1.5:1 slope vs.the 2:1 in the plans. This will require some hand placement to allow for the larger boulders
not to protrude into the sidewalk. Attached is a drawing that shows the changes to the plans. The pay item
also includes 6"of class 6 base course under the sidewalk. The 2004 CDOT Cost Data Book has an average
bid price of$61.36/S.Y.
The City of Greeley Parks has agreed to reimburse Weld County for the new pay item;therefore,no increase to
the project budget will occur nor will state or federal monies will be utilized for the work. We have included 5
additional calendar days for the contractor to perform this work.

SUBJECT: Item for Agenda
Change Order No. 1 for the construction of Weld County Bridge 27/58A over Sheep
Draw.
Weld County has contracted with Hamon, Inc., contractors for the construction of the Bridge
27/58/A replacement project, in the amount of$937,991.51. Attached is Change Order No. 1
that will increase the contract amount by $17,440.00 for additional services that were outside
the original scope of work. The additional services include the following:
• Construction of a sidewalk under bridge to facilitate future City of Greeley's Sheep
Draw Trail. The cost to provide these services will be reimbursed to Weld County
by the City of Greeley as they have agreed to pay for the services. (See
attachments.)
The new contract amount will be $955,431 .51. The project has been opened to traffic
and Hamon has a few minor cleanup items left to be completed.
Attached are two original Change Orders No. 1 for Bridge 27/58A. Please return
one original to Public Works as soon as it is signed by the Chair.
