HomeMy WebLinkAbout20022024.tiff Minutes WELD COUNTY COUNCIL June 18, 2002 Tape 183A-02 The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home Rule Charter at the Weld County Centennial Center, 915 10`h Street, Greeley, CO, June 18, 2002, 6:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Joyce Smock. Councilman Dwaine Kurtz, Councilwoman Jody Malone, and Councilman Douglas Rademacher were present, constituting a quorum of the members. Vice President Mitchell Martin arrived at 6:45 p.m. Also present: Commissioner Vaad, Commissioner Geile, and Mr. Frank Hempen. REVIEW PROGRAM: Commissioners Vaad and Geile and Public Works Director Frank Hempen presented a review program explaining Weld's use of an additional tax levy, totaling $2,675,472., received for use on Weld's roadways. Commissioner Geile outlined the Public Works' Roadway Strategic Plan including: a five-year capital improvement plan; a gravel road plan including adding grader zones, roadway widening, and rover maintenance crews; a dust control plan; a pavement maintenance plan; plans for improvement to strategic roadways and transportation corridors. Commissioners Vaad and Geile and Mr. Hempen answered Council members' questions regarding specific road projects and about future development in Weld County. AGENDA ADDITIONS/APPROVAL: Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to approve the agenda as printed. The motion carried. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Councilman Dwaine Kurtz made a motion that the May 21, 2002 Council minutes be approved. The motion carried. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. NEW BUSINESS: 2003 Weld County Council Budget Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to approve the 2003 Weld County Council budget request as presented. The motion carried. Commissioners' Request for Input to the Colorado Legislature The Council agreed to suggest to the Colorado Legislature the need for Colorado counties to work together to form Inter-governmental Agreements to develop rural roads that transcend county boundaries. denaervr 671.244-- 7-.29- ..2o0,2_ 2002-2024 Weld County Council Minutes June 18,2002 Page 2 of 2 Petitions Available for Weld County Council Applicants July 18 Councilman Dwaine Kurtz made a motion that the Council advise the media in a news release of the three Weld County Council positions that will be on the November ballot. The Council's press release should include instructions regarding how to petition onto the November ballot. The motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 2002 Salary Setting for Elected Officials Councilman Dwaine Kurtz urged Council members to be at the August 2002 Council meeting when the Council is scheduled to vote on salaries for Weld's elected officials. President Smock reviewed the current salaries and benefits of elected officials. She urged each Council member to gather opinions of Weld citizens regarding what Weld County elected officials should be paid. CORRESPONDENCE: Council members reviewed the correspondence. COORDINATOR REPORTS: President Joyce Smock reported she had been contacted by a person requesting information about Mesa County possibly becoming a home rule county. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS: Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion the bills be paid as listed: Mileage for Councilwoman Jody Malone $26.22 Mileage for Councilman Mitchell Martin $22.08 Mileage for Councilman Douglas Rademacher $19.32 Mileage for Councilwoman Joyce Smock $41.40 The motion was seconded and carried.
