The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County
Home Rule Charter at the Southwest Weld Administration Building, 4209 Weld County
Road 24 '/, Tuesday, August 20, 2002, 6:40 p.m.
ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Joyce Smock. Vice
President Mitchell Martin, Councilman Dwaine Kurtz, Councilwoman Jody Malone, and
Councilman Douglas Rademacher were present, constituting a quorum of the
members. Also present: Julie Brewer, Kim Fliethman, John Folsom, Sheriff Ed Jordan,
Dave Malcom, and the Council secretary, Bev Thomas.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to
approve the July 16, 2002 meeting minutes. The motion carried.
PUBLIC COMMENT: The citizens in attendance at the meeting commented that
salaries of Weld County elected officials should be commensurate with the salaries of
other Category I elected officials as set by the State Legislature.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
2002 Salary Setting for Elected Officials
Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to set the Commissioners' salaries at
$63,000 for 2005 and $65,000 for 2006. Councilman Kurtz seconded the motion and it
carried unanimously.
Councilman Dwaine Kurtz made a motion to set the Sheriffs salary at $80,000 for 2003
and 2004 and $90,000 for 2005 and 2006. Councilman Douglas Rademacher
seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.
Councilman Dwaine Kurtz made a motion to set the salaries of the Assessor and the
Clerk/Recorder at $67,000 for 2003 and 2004 and $75,500 for 2005 and 2006.
Councilman Douglas Rademacher seconded the motion. Councilman Mitchell Martin
called for the question. President Joyce Smock and Councilwoman Jody Malone voted
no. Council members Kurtz, Mitchell, and Rademacher voted yes, and the motion
carried.
Councilman Mitchell Martin made a motion that the Council instruct the secretary to
prepare resolutions setting the salaries as they were voted on tonight for signature at
the September 17'" Council meeting. Councilman Douglas Rademacher seconded the

motion and it was approved unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS:
APPOINTMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Joyce Smock and
Councilwoman Jody Malone announced that they would not be seeking re
election to the Weld County Council in the November 2002 election; however,
Councilman Dwaine Kurtz will be seeking re election for Weld County
Councilman at Large in the November 2002•election.
CORRESPONDENCE: President Joyce Smock will follow up on a letter Council
members received from a citizen disgruntled with Weld County Social Services.
COORDINATOR REPORTS: There were no coordinator reports.
PAY BILLS: Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to approve
payment of the bills as listed:
Mileage for Councilman Dwaine Kurtz $20.01
Mileage for Councilwoman Jody Malone $26.92
Mileage for Councilman Mitchell Martin $13.11
Mileage for Councilwoman Joyce Smock $41.40
Metro West Publishing 2n° Qtr Report to the People $21.25
Johnstown Breeze Subscription $25.00
Councilwoman Jody Malone seconded the motion and it carried.
ADDITIONS: There were no additions to the agenda.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
