Dear Mr. Haas:
This letter is to express the Town of Mead's concern about the safety of State Highway 66 in the
Mead vicinity. There have been numerous accidents in this stretch of road due to problems
ranging from sight distances to turning movements to intersection or roadway capacity. We
understand that traffic signals are planned for the exit ramps off of Interstate 25 at Highway 66,
as well as at Weld County Roads 1 and 7. We would like to use this opportunity to urge CDOT
to expedite the installation of these signals, and to not miss the earliest opportunity to put the
signal specifications out to bid so that they can be operational this fall.
In addition, we are concerned with the comment in the Times-Call article on May 31 that said
that the intersection of Highway 66 and WCR 7 would "likely" include the addition of turning

lanes, although no pavement would be added. We think that there SHOULD be turning lanes,
and we do not see how this can be accomplished with the existing pavement widths. People
already travel partially on the shoulder to go around vehicles on the right that are stopped to try
to make a left turn onto northbound WCR 7 from eastbound Highway 66. We would appreciate
clarification of this issue, or expansion of the scope of this project to properly deal with turning
lanes as part of the bid specification process.
Another intersection that is dangerous is WCR 13 and Highway 66. Our residents in the
Grandview Estates Subdivision there have expressed their concerns to us about it. What is
programmed for this intersection?
