Deer Commissioner Johnson:
I am writing in regards to the expansion of Erie Landfill Inc. which
is on the agenda for the Commissioner's meeting May 4, 1983.
I am a property owner and very concerned that our county leaders see
this as an area for continuous landfill expansion. Our future as
homeowners is very much at stake. We have invested in property that
can only be devalued if this continues.
Also I am concerned about the volume that is being dumped and the fact
that no monitoring system hes been done either by the State or Weld
County Health as to what is actually dumped. In looking at the records
a visual inspection is done and the landfill makes their own lab. report.
To date Colo. Landfill is offering 24 hour service. Besides the question
as to what is being dumped, there is the constant dust pollution problem
and the vehicular hazard.
Please consider these problems as well as problems that may exist in the
future due to contamination or improper closure.
In a recent Denver Post it was brought to our attention that Marshall
Landfill has gone to charging a sir charge to trucks to help pay for
some of their problems. This can only make our situation more of a
hazard if we do not have the same.
Please take this into consideration as I am unable to attend the meeting
May 4th. It is truly a problem for us to attend the Planning Commissioner's
meeting on May 3rd and then one the following day also. Due to out of
town business scheduled before this meeting I am sorry that I cannot
be present.
