The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County
Home Rule Charter at Weld County Centennial Center, 915 10th Street, Greeley, CO,
Tuesday, October 15, 2002, 6:44 p.m.
ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Joyce Smock. Vice
President Mitchell Martin was present. Also present: Mr. Bob White and the Council
secretary, Bev Thomas.
President Joyce Smock stated that as there was not a quorum present, there would be
no business transacted, but the program for the evening would continue as announced.
REVIEW PROGRAM: Mr. Bob White, charter member of the Weld County Home Rule
Committee, gave an overview of the county's history as a home rule county which was
initiated by the League of Women Voters in the 1970's. President Joyce Smock, Vice
President Mitchell Martin, and Mr. White discussed changes in county government
since the 1970's and the role and responsibilities of the Weld County Council.
COORDINATOR REPORTS: Vice President Mitchell Martin reported on the October
14 elected officials meeting with Commissioners and Clerk/Recorder Suki Tsukamoto in
attendance. Those present said they thought the Weld County Council had raised the
Sheriffs salary appropriately.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
