BOX 758 GREELEY, COLORADO 80632 C COLORADO November 4, 2002 Wayne Oliphant 23500 WCR 6 Hudson, CO 80642 Dear Mr. Oliphant: Thank you for your email dated October 20, 2002, in reference to the road condition on WCR 4. I have referred your message to the Weld County Public Works Department for review and inspection. WCR 4 was used as a detour road for the Adams County Construction Projects;however, the volumn of traffic was not significant enough to treat the road with dust suppressant. I have instructed the Public Works Department to send you literature on the private application support available from the county. While winrows of material (curbs) are a routine necessity in gravel road maintenance and left along the road edge, they should allow the road to drain at the slot points. All roads are left with a 2%-3%crown during re-graveling and construction operations. The lack of moisture, geological environment, and the volume of traffic that drives down the center of the road, immediately destroys the crown between the routine grading of the road. Very truly yours, BOARD OFCOUNTY COMMISSIONERS Glenn Vaad, Chair GV/db cc: Commissioner M.J.Geile Commissioner William H. In fact most tWekwel t e,o.-roads I have driven are a disgrace. We who live in the country are NOT second class citizens. We pay taxes like everybody else. My wife drives road 4 from road 47 east every day. She says at times it's so bad she can only drive 5 mph. My car is a bit heavier, I can speed up to 8 mph!! I resent destroying my vehicles because the roads are not graded properly. I've lived in the country most of my life. I KNOW how roads should be graded. When we moved here seven years ago the roads were dirt and fine except when it rained. When it rained they were disaster because they were graded flat- no crown and graded so there was a curb. (there is still a curb) I once asked Scott why the curb. He told me it's to keep rain from washing the road! Firstly, What rain?? Secondly, the roads should be crowned so water WILL run off. Imagine interstate in a driving rain and no crown?? Four years or so ago when these roads were gravelled I thought, wow, how nice! Less dust to settle on the farmers hay! I detest (perhaps I should pity)those morons who drive 60-70 mph and create a dust cloud that takes hours to settle. And it does take hours to settle. I've been driving in from the east nearly every day for two weeks and this valley is a haze of dust reaching probably 70-100 feet into the air. And thats not just this dry year, it's any year. I live just north of the adams/weld co. line. Come see me, I'll show you the difference in good grading and bad grading. We deserve better and we're gonna get better! Enough is enough!
