CONSERVATION COMMISSION 2002

RE: Space City Compressor Station Closure/Remediation#734
SWNE Section 31 —T1N—R65W
Weld County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Roberts:
Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) staff has reviewed the file and closure
request for the subject site. Site investigation activities were conducted in accordance with the
Form 27—Site Investigation and Remediation Workplan that was conditionally approved by the
COGCC in correspondence dated May 14, 2001.
According to information provided, a total of six ground water monitoring wells were drilled and
completed at depths ranging from 25 to 26.5 feet below surface. No ground water was
encountered during drilling or during subsequent monitoring attempts. Based on these results, the
site is considered to be located in a non-sensitive area. Additionally, representative soil samples
collected during the drilling of the monitoring wells were analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons.
Laboratory results indicated that Total Recoverable Petroleum Hydrocarbon(TRPH)
concentrations were well below the COGCC standard for non-sensitive areas at 10,000 mg/kg and
also below the COGCC standard for sensitive areas at 1,000 mg/kg. Surficial soils above the
COGCC standards for non-sensitive areas had previously been identified during an environmental
site assessment conducted in 1997. These soils were reportedly excavated and removed to the
permitted Centralized Land Treatment facility for further remediation.
Based upon information provided, COGCC staff approves closure of the site with no further
action required at this time. However, should conditions be discovered which indicate that
contaminant concentrations in soils exceed COGCC standards for non-sensitive areas or if ground
water is found to have been significantly impacted then EnCana Energy Resources Inc. may be
required to conduct further site investigation and/or remediation at the site. Final reclamation of
the subject site shall be subject to the 1000 Series rules for reclamation.
Should you have any questions, please call me at(303) 894-2100 ext.118.
Sincerely,
