Dear Board,
As you are well aware Elected Officials of Weld County are subject to the term limits of Office
as defined in the Constitution of the State of Colorado. My current term ends in January 2003
and my successor will be elected in the General Election this November. With this in mind, I am
taking a position with Background Security International LLC. The opportunity as well as the
needs of this firm would require that I resign my Office of Sheriff three months early.
I have enjoyed the time I have served not only as Sheriff, but worked as a Deputy at the Weld
County Sheriff's Office. The individuals I have met and worked with over the years have given
me great satisfaction. The friendships I have made will last the rest of my life. The opportunities
I have been afforded have been unlimited, and I have learned a great deal. I am very proud of my
tenure, as well as the accomplishments we have made. The staff of the Sheriff's Office is highly
trained and professional and I would compare their abilities and success with any police
organization in the Nation.
I am making my resignation effective October 1, 2002. I would hope this will give you enough
time to prepare for my replacement for the three months. The Sheriff's Office is being left in
very capable hands and I have no doubt they can meet what ever challenges may come up.
