Re: July 12, 2002, Letter Requesting Improvement of Weld County Road (WCR) 7 from
WCR 48 to State Highway 60, and WCR 48 from WCR 7 to Interstate 25;
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rome:
The Public Works Department has confirmed that the traffic counts on the referenced roads meet
the minimum dust control qualifications as specified in the Weld County Code. Dust control will
consist of topical treatment twice annually. The department plans to begin preparing these
segments for dust control using magnesium chloride during the week of July 29, 2002.
WCR 50 west of the frontage road consists of the same magnesium chloride process except that
it has been worked deep into the road base at five times the cost of topical dust control. This was
accomplished under a mutual agreement with Larimer County, who paid for the application and
currently maintains the road.
If you have further questions, please contact Frank B. Hempen, Jr., P.E.,Director of Public
Works at (970)356-4000, Ext. 3750.

RE: letter dated November 9,2001 —WCR 7& 48
Eight months have past since your last letter. There have been two additional traffic counts since
the first of this year. What were the results and what is going to be done with these roads?
Portions of Road 7 are rarely maintained unless we ask that the road be graded. A portion of road
7 approaching Hiway 60 is so rough it is almost impossible to drive, but still nothing is done to
improve this situation. There are also three large potholes that need attention. Is the county
paying for front end alignment? Has anyone from your office tried to drive this portion of road
7?
We seem to have prevailing winds from the east which results in a very UNHEALTHY
environment as we are located on the east side of road 7. In other words, 199 cars & large trucks
a day traveling these roads create a very dusty and dirty environment.
What did you apply to county road 50 west of county road 13 to the frontage road? This seems
to be a much better dust control method than using the controversial magnesium chloride
alone.
In closing, we once again request that roads 7& 48 be paved and if not, please apply a
satisfactory type of dust control immediately so that we can enjoy a healthy environment!
We don't feel that we should have to live in this dirt and dust.
We anxiously await a reply.
Thank you, -
