The fill material shall be placed in uniform layers and compacted to meet the requirements as directed by the Engineer. Each layer shall be thoroughly mixed to insure uniformity in each layer. Compacted layer thickness shall be no greater than six inches (6") unless approved otherwise by the Engineer. If selected or approved fill material contains rock, the maximum rock size shall be six inches (6" ) in diameter. Care should be taken to insure all voids are filled. No large rocks shall be placed within twelve inches (12") of the finished surface. Each layer shall be thoroughly compacted to the specified density. The required density shall normally be 95% of maximum dry density, as provided in accordance with ASTM D698. The compacted density may vary according to the type of material used, and will be specified by the Engineer. Compaction of the fill shall be such that a uniform density is obtained. Compaction shall be accomplished within 2% of the optimum moisture content. All slopes shall be compacted until the slopes are stable, but not too dense to prohibit slope control planting. Slope compaction may be done in increments as the fill progresses or when the fill is brought to its total height. 3.04 INSTALLATION A. This report provides percolation test results and septic system recommendations for a proposed commercial building to be located on part of the W 1/2 of Section 29-6- 65, Weld County, Colorado. SITE INVESTIGATION A field investigation, performed on February 2, 1993 , consisted of drilling one (1) test hole to a depth of eight and one-half feet (8 1/2 ' ) and four (4) percolation holes to an average depth of forty-eight (48") . Percolation tests were performed on February 3, 1993 . The Location of the Test Holes is shown on Drawing No. 1. A Log of Borings are shown on Drawing No. 2. 1 SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION The site is located between the Town of Lucerne and the City of Greeley, Weld County, Colorado, just east of Highway 85 . The site is relatively flat and is farmland. Vegetation consists of various planted grasses. SUBSOIL AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS Topsoil - Approximately twelve inches (12") of topsoil overlies the site. The topsoil should be stockpiled and used as backfill over the absorption field. C 2 Sandy Silty Clay - Brown, damp, stiff, sandy silty clay was encountered beneath the topsoil to a depth of two feet (2 ' ) . F Fine Sand - Tan, damp, fine sand with varying amounts of clays and silts was encountered beneath the sandy silty clay to a depth of eight and one-half feet (8 1/2 ' ) . Groundwater was not encountered in the test holes twenty- four (24) hours after drilling. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS A total of four (4) percolation tests were run on the site, using the Standard Test Method, as described by the Weld County Health Department. Percolation test holes were presoaked on February 2 , 1993 , and the test was performed on February 3 , 1993 . Test results varied between 30 and 40 minutes per inch with an average of 38 minutes per inch. STANDARD ABSORPTION AREA From Page 28 from the I.S. D.S .R. for Weld County and assuming 50 employees, and assuming 25 gallons/person/day sewage flow (the flow is mostly toilet and sink office usage, but workers are expected Lto perform more hand washing than an average office and T F ( 3 no manufacturing usage of the septic systems will occur) . Commercial Absorption Area (Sq. Ft. ) Office/Factory 4293 REQUIRED SEPTIC TANK SIZE Commercial Minimum Tank Capacity (gals. ) Office/Factory 2500 SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS Recommended is a compartmented septic tank of the required size to be followed by a standard absorption field with a bottom area of 4293 square feet. The bed should be constructed in accordance with Section 5. 6 of the I.S.D.S.R. for Weld County (see Drawing No. 3) . The bed should lie a minimum of ten feet (10 ' ) from property lines and twenty feet (20 ' ) from the proposed building. This system is to meet all rules and regulations set forth by the Weld County Health Department. The system is to be inspected by a representative of the Weld County Health Department prior to backfilling. J O 01 APPENDIX I GENERAL MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS The following recommendations, if followed, should help increase the lifetime of the system: 1. Septic tanks should be pumped a minimum of once every four years. 2 . Septic tanks and distribution boxes should be checked at least once a year for sludge accumulation which may clog the leach area if overflow occurs. 3 . The leach area should not be used for grazing, sports activities, traffic, or other activity which may compact the soils. 4 . Cast-iron pipe should be used if lines are to be placed under driveways. 5 . Trees should not be planted near the leach area so as to prevent roots from clogging the system. 6. If trees are to be planted nearby, they should be located so that the leach area is not shaded. 7 . Overuse of strong chemicals, which may kill the bacteria in the system and inhibit decomposition of the sewage, should be avoided. 8 . Positive drainage should be maintained over and around the absorption field area to prevent pooling of water. 9. Lines to the tank or leach area should have sufficient ground cover to prevent freezing.
