Re: Road Conditions in the vicinity of WCR 32 on the South, WCR 33 on the East, and US 85
on the West
Dear Ms. Heilman:
Thank you for your letter regarding road conditions in the referenced area.
The Public Works Depai fluent has conducted traffic counts on Weld County Roads 31, 33, and 36
in this area. With the exception of WCR 33 between WCR 40 and 42, none of the traffic volumes
exceed 200 vehicles per day. WCR 33, between the limits noted above, did record a count of 232
vehicles per day. As you indicated in your letter, our traffic technician did note heavy oil field traffic
in the area.
The County does not consider pavement improvements or dust suppression activities for these
roadways unless traffic volumes consistently exceed an average of 200 vehicles per day. The Board
ofCounty Commissioners is in the process of developing a policy to address roadway segments that
meet the minimum average traffic volume for dust suppression but may not yet merit pavement
improvements.
I have asked the Department of Public Works to recount the roads noted above within three months
to confirm the previous counts. The new policy will address those roadways that consistently exceed
an average of 200 vehicles per day.

I have also asked the Department of Public Works to review gravel road maintenance in your area
to determine whether improvements can be made in their normal maintenance operations for these
roads.
If you have additional questions, please contact Frank Hempen, Jr., Director of Public Works, at
(970)356-4000, Extension 3750.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Ref : Road Conditions
Dear Mr . Vaad : ..
The purpose of my letter is to discuss and bring your
attention to the condition of the roads bordered by County
Road 32 on the South, Road 33 on the East , and U. S.
Highway 85 on the North. All of these roads are unpaved
and are bad, bad, bad.
Due to the very dry weather conditions this past Summer
and Fall , this creates a lot of dust , not only from the
people living in this area who have to use these roads ,
but also from the people who service all the gas wells
and the trucks from Longmont Foods . It is a very un-
healthy atmosphere for both people and animals. Even
though the roads are graded periodically , there are times
when 5 miles per hour is the top speed you can travel if
you want to keep body, soul, and your vehicle in one piece .
A lot of people have moved into this area in the last
couple of years , so the tax base to get these roads paved
should be there. I am sure that all the people who live
in this area would appreciate your best effects in regard
to this matter . I will be waiting to hear from you.
Your very truly ,
Acirne
