RE: ACTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REGARDING VIOLATION
VI #0100163 AGAINST JOSE AND RITA JARAMILLO FOR VIOLATION OF THE
WELD COUNTY CODE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, Jose and Rita Jaramillo, VI #0100163, are allegedly in violation of the Weld
County Code, and
WHEREAS, on the 14th day of May, 2002, a public hearing was held before the Board
of County Commissioners for the purpose of hearing testimony relating to said violation, at
which time the matter was continued to June 4, 2002, to allow staff adequate time to personally
contact the property owners and advise them of the violation hearing, and
WHEREAS, on the 4th day of June, 2002, a public hearing was again held before the
Board of County Commissioners for the purpose of hearing testimony relating to said violation,
and
WHEREAS, Jose and Rita Jaramillo were not present or represented at said hearing,
and
WHEREAS, at said hearing of June 4, 2002, the Board of County Commissioners
determined the property owners have brought the subject property into compliance and deemed
it advisable to dismiss said matter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that VI #0100163 against Jose and Rita Jaramillo, be, and hereby is,
dismissed

I am writing this letter in reference to building pcnuit BC-9601011 that has been issued to you. Our
records indicate that there has not been any work activity within the last 180 days since your last
inspection. This is a friendly reminder that all permits issued by the building official under the
provisions of Section 83 of the Building Code Ordinance, are required to be have regular inspections
conducted within 180 days of issue or from the time of your last inspection. Your building permit has
exceeded the time period allowed and if not completed in a timely manner, a violation will be issued for
this permit, in which it may be scheduled for a hearing with the Board of County Commissioners, and if
necessary, referred to the County Attorney's Office to proceed with legal action. We encourage you to
complete all necessary inspections or contact our office with a status of completion on your building
permit before August 24. 2000 to avoid receiving a violation. We also ask that you please call us
regarding any difficulties you may lencounter with completing all necessary inspections.
It is not necessary for you to contact me personally to schedule the inspection(s) when ready. Our 24
hour inspection request line number is 356-8016 or 1-800-234-2534 if the phone number is long distance.
If you call before 4:00 P. M., you may schedule the inspection(s) for the next working day. Please make

Dear Mr.Jose Jaramillo:
The property referenced above remains in violation of the Weld County Building Code Ordinance. I have
scheduled a meeting with the Board of County Commissioners on May 14, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., to consider
the violations occurring on the property. As we discussed the above mentioned property is in violation of
the following Section(s) of the Weld County Code:
Section 29.3-50 "Existing use or occupancy"
Section 29-8-40 "Expiration of permit"
This meeting will take place in the County Commissioners' Hearing Room, First Floor, Weld County
Centennial Center, 915 10th Street, Greeley, Colorado. It is recommended that you or a representative be in
attendance to answer any questions the Board of County Commissioners might have about the violations.
Please also be advised that I will be taking video from the road or adjacent properties a few days before the
Violation Hearing (indicated above).
The Department of Building Inspection will be recommending that the Board of County Commissioners
authorize the County Attorney to proceed with legal action to remedy the violation. Our records indicate
that you were made aware of the nature of the violation, the action necessary to correct the violation, and

Mr . Jaramillo :
As requested , I visited the referenced shop building with you on
December 8 , 1998 , to make visual observations of the structure .
Specifically, I was asked to investigate several items listed on a
Weld County Building Inspection Department Correction Notice . They
are :
1 . Foundation adequacy
2 . "Home made" roof trusses
:3 . 2 x 6 stud wall 24" o . c . , 16' -5 " tall
My observations are as follows :
The foundation edge was exposed by hand digging and it appears that it
is 6" thick slab with 30" deep thickened edge at perimeter . The roof
trusses are 2 x 4 wood members with 1 / 2" plywood gussets glued and
nailed . The studs are SPF #2 grade . Sheathing is OSB throughout .
The live loads that I used in my investigation calculations are 30 psf
ground snow load with snow exposure factor of 0 . 7 , and basic wind
speed of 85 mph, exposure B .
Based on my observations and calculations , my findings are as follows :
1 . The foundation appears to be adequate .
2 . The roof trusses appear to be adequate .
3 . The 2 x 6 bearing wall studs are not adeaute at their full
unsupportd height .
4 . The lateral stability of the shear walls is not adequate .
I recommend the following :
1 . The studs should be supported at 14 feet height with 2 x 4 knee
braces at 45 degree angle up to the roof trusses bottom chord at the
bearing walls .

2 . One additional full height stud should be added to each jamb of
the overhead doors .
3 . Install "Simpson" t#MTT22 tension tie hold-down at each corner of
the building and at each jamb of the east wall overhead door . Anchor
each tension tie to the foundation with a 5 /8" diameter threaded rod
epoxy set 5 " into the concrete foundation . See enclosed literature .
Each tension tie should be attached to a double stud min . according to
the manufacturers recommendations .
4 . Install 2 x 6 blocking at all horizontal joints in exterior
sheathing . Since siding is in place , the blocking may be glued to the
sheathing both sides of the joint , and nailed to the studs .
5 . Install diagonal supports from the top plate of the end walls up
to the top of the roof trusses at approximately 45 degree angle . Also
install continuous row of horizontal bridging across the bottom of the
trusses .
With these remedial measures completed , I believe the structure will
be capable of adequately supporting the intended loads . My
investigation was limited the structure as indicated . No liability is
accepted for mechanical , electrical , HVAC , plumbing , grading , roofing ,
or architectural features . If you have any questions or if I can be
