Approximately 600 thousand dollars in federal funds are available for
the rehabilitation of substandard structures. These funds are available
on an 80% federal, 20% local matching share. However, it should be
noted that work performed with these funds must meet the Federal Bridge
Construction/Rehabilitation Guidelines.

The Special Highway Committee is soliciting applications from interested
local governments for grants under this program. You may submit one or
(if applicable) more bridges for funding. In the case of multiple requests
the bridges must be listed in the order of their priority. The following
information must be submitted for each structure that you are submitting
for funding through this program:
1. Photographs of the bridge;
2. A copy of the inspection report;
3. A brief narrative discussing the need for the work.
The Special Highway Committee will review all requests and determine
priorities for funding within existing revenue enablements. In the
event that your application is selected you will be required to submit
an engineer' s report which can be funded on an 80% federal-20% local
basis. This report is necessary to provide an estimate of the cost of
the replacement or rehabilitation and will be the basis for the funding
of projects.
All requests must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. , August 14,
1981. Requests should be sent to John F. Tomsic, Colorado Counties,
Inc. , 1500 Grant St.-Suite 301, Denver, CO 80203.
The Special Highway Committee should complete its review process and
recommendations for funding by the end of September.
For 1982 budget purposes, the replacement cost figure contained in
the inventory report should serve as an estimate until such time as
the engineer's report is completed. In the event that your project
is not selected for funding the budgeted item becomes redundant or a
washout due to the lack of funding.
Sincerely, /7
Ed Touber
Chairman
