HomeMy WebLinkAbout20021774 Minutes WELD COUNTY COUNCIL May 21, 2002 Tapes 181A02 & 182A02 The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home Rule Charter at Weld County Centennial Center, 915 10th Street, Greeley, CO, Tuesday, May 21, 2002, 6:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Joyce Smock. Vice President Mitchell Martin, Councilman Dwaine Kurtz, Councilwoman Jody Malone, and Councilman Douglas Rademacher were present, constituting a quorum of the members. Also present: Anita Kramer, Dr. Mark Wallace, and the Council secretary, Bev Thomas. REVIEW PROGRAM: Dr. Mark Wallace, Executive Director of Weld County's Public Health and Environment, was introduced by President Joyce Smock. Dr. Wallace gave a PowerPoint presentation regarding public health in Weld County. He outlined the services and activities of the department including: essential public health services, strategic planning, administrative services, grants management, environmental health services, consumer protection, environmental planning, individual sewage issues, public health education, health promotion, educational materials, public health nursing, communicable disease control, emergency preparedness, bio terrorism, and challenges the department faces. Thirty-one grants, totaling $1.8 million, are the largest portion of Weld County's Health Department budget. Weld County provides 40 percent of the budget through direct funding or fees-for-services. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to approve the April 16, 2002 Council meeting minutes. The motion carried. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 2002 Salary Setting for Elected Officials Councilman Dwaine Kurtz asked that the Council's June press release request public comment regarding Weld County elected officials' salaries for 2003 through 2006. NEW BUSINESS: APPOINTMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Joyce Smock noted the Council's 2003 budget request must be to Don Warden by July 8, 2002. IYtae4,4 2002-1774 -bl--QM a. COORDINATOR REPORTS: Weld County Road Conditions Councilman Dwaine Kurtz reported he had talked with Public Works Director Frank Hempen and learned that no soil can be put on roads due to the current drought conditions which have created a serious problem for Weld County roads. PAYMENT OF THE BILLS: Councilman Douglas Rademacher made a motion to approve the listed bills: Mileage for Councilman Dwaine Kurtz $20.01 Mileage for Councilwoman Jody Malone $26.22 Mileage for Councilman Mitchell Martin $22.08 Mileage for Councilman Douglas Rademacher $19.32 Mileage for Councilwoman Joyce Smock $41.40 The motion carried.
