NATIONAL RADON ACTION MONTH - RADON AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, radon is a naturally occurring, colorless and odorless radioactive gas that can \
build up indoors, and prolonged radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung
/ ` cancer overall in the United States; and
Vic' ` WHEREAS, Colorado's geologic makeup places our state at high risk for elevated radon 1>
levels, with approximately 50%of Colorado homes estimated to have radon levels above a

WHEREAS, testing is the only way to know whether radon levels in a home are elevated r,
, and pose a health risk, and winter is an ideal time to test because homes are typically \ _
,, sealed against the cold, which can provide the most accurate results; and
t WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment supports '' -
radon awareness and prevention by providing public education and offering free short-
