Box 758 Greeley, Colorado 80632 • COLORADO August 22 2006 Ms.Alva Padilla 181 E. 5th Street Eaton,CO 80615 RE: Paving 5th Street Dear Ms.Padilla: The Weld County Board of Commissioners is in receipt of the petition signed by you and your neighbors requesting that E. 5th Street near Eaton be paved by Weld County. On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, I would like to thank you for taking the time to gather these signatures to convey your neighborhood's request to us. You are certainly not alone in your desire to have your road paved. Weld County maintains over 2,500 miles of gravel roads and we receive requests from hundreds of residents each year to pave their road. Unfortunately, the County's resources are limited and the Public Works Department is only able to pave a couple of miles of gravel roads each year. Public Works does go through a detailed process to determine which roads should have the highest priority for paving. The criteria used in setting priorities include: existing traffic volumes, estimated future traffic volumes, proposed developments in the area, etc. While your road is not among the highest priority roads for paving this year or in 2007, Public Works will ensure that your road will be among those considered for paving in future years. Another option that you and your neighbors may want to consider would be setting up an improvement district. This means rs would be for the that yur allyUthese payments can be spread out over multipleyears and a o coulde paved in a very short time frame, but you and your ddedto your property ptaxes. to pay Thank you again for taking the time to write the Board of Commissioners about this matter. Please contact us again if you have any additional concerns about this or any other issue. You can also contact Perry Eisenach, Engineering Division Manager with the Public Works Department, at (970) 304-6496, extension 3758, if you would like to discuss the system used to prioritize gravel roads for paving or talk about setting up an improvement district.
