Dear Commissioners: I received the following from one of our legislators. Apparently, there is one
representative in state government who is aware of the future mayhem your policies will impose on
Weld residents. John Folsom
John,
I appreciate your well thought out perspective. You make some good points. However, I'm not sure
how practical the fiscal analysis you describe is. Most developers don't have access to the information
that would be needed to create an accurate fiscal impact statement. The unfortunate truth is that it's the
job of the City Council or Planning Commission to perform the financial analysis for the community.
To the extent they are not doing this effectively, the community should replace them with qualified
people.
I do, however, think there is more that we can do. In particular, I have been distressed with Weld
County's practices and their affect on local governments. I would not be surprised if we see legislation
addressing some of these issues in 2007.
