HomeMy WebLinkAbout20063451.tiff RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE HEALTH INSURANCE WAIVER FOR CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS,Weld County will be recruiting a number of new correctional officers in years 2007 and 2008 to staff Phase Ill of the Weld County North Jail, and WHEREAS, Weld County has experienced difficulties in recruiting a large number of correctional officers, and WHEREAS,one of the obstacles to recruitment of correctional officers is the cost of health insurance for new hires with dependent coverage for the first year of employment, and WHEREAS,the Director of Finance and Administration,the Director of Personnel, and the Jail Bureau Chief have recommended that the requirement for the employee to pay a higher rate for dependent health insurance for the first year of coverage be waived for all correctional officer classifications for enrollment for February 16, 2007, for existing employees classified as correctional officers for coverage beginning March 1, 2007, and all correctional officers hired between February 16, 2007, and August 16, 2008, and WHEREAS, Great West Healthcare, the County's health insurance carrier, is agreeable to this waiver due to the extraordinary circumstance on a one-time basis. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Board hereby concurs with the staff recommendation and waives the requirement for the employee to pay a higher rate for dependent health insurance coverage for the first year of coverage for all correctional officer classifications for enrollment for February 16, 2007, for existing employees classified as correctional officers for coverage beginning March 1, 2007, and for all correctional officers hired between February 16, 2007, and August 16, 2008. 2006-3451 PE0024 ()0 ; eC: CpW) mi - //- Oy HEALTH INSURANCE WAIVER FOR CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS PAGE 2 The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 18th day of December, A.D., 2006.
