Dear Chairman Geile:
On November 27, 2006, I received the County Commissioners' 36 CFR 215 appeal of District
Ranger Steve Currey's decision of Black-tailed Prairie Dog Management on the Pawnee
National Grassland. Your appeal was timely, and I will be rendering my written decision on
your appeal as well as several others no later than January 18, 2007.
On page 5 of your appeal the Board requested a meeting with me to discuss your appeal in my
capacity as the Appeal Deciding Officer. Because I must conduct a fair and objective review I
am not allowed to hold private discussion of the merits of the appeal with any of the appellants
(Forest Service Handbook 1509.12-35.4). I do, however, encourage you to meet with Ranger
Currey to resolve the issues brought up in your appeal. If he has not already, I am sure Ranger
Currey will be calling soon to set up a meeting. I hope to hear from him that you were able to
resolve your appeal issues.
