RESOLUTION
RE: APPROVAL OF UP-FRONT PAYMENTS FOR OVERTIME RATHER THAN COMP-
ENSATORY TIME OFF IN SHERIFF' S DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS , due to the nature of the emergency type work in
the Sheriff' s Department, a large amount of overtime is required,
and
WHEREAS, taking compensatory time off, which is normally
how County employees are paid for overtime, has created a severe
manning problem for the Sheriff, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners and the Sheriff,
after examining many alternatives, have decided on up-front pay-
ment of 21% of their pay for those with the rank of Corporal ,
Deputy I and Deputy II in the Sheriff' s Department, and
WHEREAS , those with the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant and
Captain are not eligible for the 21% up-front payment because
their salary is such as to require them to put in whatever time
is required to complete the job, and
WHEREAS, those having a rank of Corporal, Deputy I and
Deputy II shall be paid a lump sum payment for all overtime
currently on the books for the months of September, October and
November, 1980, in accordance with County Personnel Policy 2. 3. 4
and the new up-front payment of 21% to be in effect December 1,
1980 , and
WHEREAS, the Sheriff has agreed to reduce his 1981 authorized
manning by five positions to pay for the increased cost of this
proposal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado that those having a rank
of Corporal, Deputy I and Deputy II , in the Sheriff' s Depart-
ment, shall receive a 21% up-front payment for overtime rather
than compensatory time off.
