Aiken Audubon applauds alternative forms of energy, but we are concerned that the windfarm known as Cedar Creek near the Pawnee National Grasslands could be damaging to birds. Please commit, at minimum, to following the Colorado Division of Wildlife's recommendation that turbines be kept out of a buffer of 1/2-mile from eagle and prairie falcon nests and 1/4-mile from other raptor nests in the Pawnee National Grassland. These buffers are to protect the nesting birds from human disturbances associated with operating and maintaining the turbines. Indeed, none of the turbines should be within 1/2-mile of the rim --where roughly 75 active and inactive raptor nests have been identified this year. In addition it is important to avoid disturbance of ground-nesting birds during the construction of each of the turbines. This is an extraordinary area, visited by many citizens from all over Colorado, and it would not be in your corporate interests to alienate so many people. We ask that you act as good corporate citizens and respect the environment, the resources, and the people of Colorado. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely-- Sandra McNew Aiken Audubon Conservation Chair PL/2Y(0 usz*1563 2ja'/mot, u* (SCo3 8(/‘„ 8/17/2006 2006-2297 Hello
